I grew up eating and shopping at this market. Good to see the carrot cake uncle still there. His daughter is my junior at the nearby primary school

This one is on my list to visit in August - last time I tried to go there was a few years ago before the DT Line was open; I caught a train to Aljunied and set off to walk via an excursion to Sims Vista. One plate of duck rice and one plate of bak chor mee later, I was too full to do anything except go back to the hotel, so I never went to MacPherson in the end.

Wowz.. where you coming from mate? 😀Singapore hotels have gotten murderously expensive for foodie travellers.. I thought Ibis MacPherson would be a cheaper and closer hotel to move about and explore the heartland areas.. but it’s also so ex 😅.. I also told myself to just try a bit of everything.. but it’s almost impossible once you taste something good.. end up finishing the whole plate mostly 😋

@@Piggypuggy Coming from New Zealand - we've been travelling to Singapore for almost 20 years. The first couple of times were stopovers but I've been going there on my own just for eating holidays since about 2006 (Mrs Braintransplantdonor refuses to eat six meals a day for some reason), when I discovered hawker food and fell in love with it. I try to stay in a different area each time I go but end up a lot round Bugis/Little India; hotels are reasonable and it's easy for public transport. Up to now I've been to around 30 different hawker centres, but my dream of eating at least one meal at every one is fading - you people keep opening new ones, and I'm not getting any younger
@Piggypuggy Жыл бұрын
You Champion 😂 I don’t even know if I’ve managed to cover 30 yet.. mainly using google maps as a guide. Well the Govt haven’t been setting up new hawkers till just recently after we got the so called heritage award.. the new ones are somewhat like food courts and has a different vibe from our hawker origins.. would suggest to visit and have a taste from those old timers before they retire.. mrs.. probably couldn’t keep up with your quest to conquer them all 😂. Why not Penang laaaa.. she can relax and massage and you can wander the streets. Grab is incredibly cheap there and Singapore’s 1 night stay can prob pay for a weeks hotel there. Street food there resembles Singapore back in the 70s with old colonial style coffee shops

@@Piggypuggy Whenever I go to a hawker centre I usually try and talk to whoever I sit next to; in 2019 I was at Dunman for some tau kwa pau from Say Seng, and I got taslking to a lady who suggested I try Penang. She said very much the same as you, so after I got back to Christchurch I looked into booking a fortnight there for 2020. Of course covid put a stop to that, and we haven't had the chance to get anywhere overseas since then. I use the NEA hawker centre list as a reference; www.nea.gov.sg/docs/default-source/hawker-centres-documents/list-of-hcs_-16-dec-2022.pdf and use google maps for planning transport when I'm over there. My wife and I have had EZ-Link cards for ages, so we just go everywhere by public transport - we're on to our third cards up to now, and I think mine expires this year.

Hawker food is the best. Almost died when I was overseas for a year, can't find any comfort local food. Food = life 😅
Proper Hawker centre! Da pao kopi used to come in a can with a string through the lid when i was young
@Piggypuggy Жыл бұрын
Nailed it.. Proper is the word 😄 Back then those tins were precious commodities.. until the late 70s where plastic bag and strings came about. The Malaysia ones were more interesting.. the raffia string tied at one corner of the plastic bag. I still get amused each time I see it in Penang where you can feel the nostalgia of the 70s

Are all the food video showing are organic dishes? Are they encourage to eat organic dishes ? As organic dishes are tasteless and no much sweetness. Should use approved industrial food chemical to enhance the flavor of organic dishes. Can make more things in the end.
