Thank you so much for this video. I'm new to stamping and was looking for a stamping tutorial that used powders that don't need UV light curing and I found yours!! I'm so happy I can try this and won't need to use gel or UV 😊

Compare pricing, Jacquard Pearl EX is “pigment powder” in the art world. Large bottles under $10 in my area. Amazon sells it as well $7-$8 for 3/4 or .75 oz. You can get 3 grams for $5-$6. It’s all the same thing, I’m not sure about the name Mica powder, suspect it’s the same though. I bet the ones sold as “nail pigment powder” are made by Jacquard/Pearl EX and repackaged. A little goes a way long way. Use caution, it’s dangerous to breathe in the powder/dust and that it’s so light weight it floats around easily.

I noticed that your stamper has a bit of a "fog" to if before you added the powder. Is that from doing your previous fingers for this mani and will completely remove when you're all done? Or is that fogginess left after doing multiple manicures? I'm wondering if I should use something other than my favorite stamper to try this technique.
@KyongLee7 жыл бұрын
+Lustrous Lacquer The fogginess is from previous pigment stamping. I've done a lot of it lol. I did notice the fogginess after the first mani. It doesn't go away and no amount of cleaning seems to help. It doesn't affect pick up but obviously it's harder to line up stamping. I've designated it as my pigment stamper. If you don't want to do that to a clear stamper, you can use any regular sticky stamper instead.

Thanks! That answers my question perfectly.

I might have missed, or possibly you've already answered this question. What type of polish did you use to top coat? Water based or regular? Lovely mani 💜
@KyongLee6 жыл бұрын
When I use pigments I generally use a water based topcoat like Sophi or Unt. If I want it to last more than a day, I will wait for that to dry completely and then apply my regular top coat.

Is it clear polish or fast dry top coat? my experience shows that clear polish dries slower...
@KyongLee6 жыл бұрын
Clear polish.
@alfierodriguez68225 жыл бұрын
But dont you have to top coat it again so that the pigment stayed?
@KyongLee5 жыл бұрын
It sticks pretty well, but yes, top coating it again would help with longevity.
@jeannesohre51187 жыл бұрын
Did you have polish also on stamper before adding pigment?
@KyongLee7 жыл бұрын
+Jeanne Sohre No, you add pigment to bare stamper, then stamp with clear.

You are on a roll with your reviews, Kyong and what a fantastic idea to sub clear polish, which we all have surplus of in our stamping stash. :) Q: I noticed in your still shot it appears you may have stamped each finger with a different colored pigment? Are they laid out in order on the nails as they are listed in the description box?
@KyongLee7 жыл бұрын
+Mani Paws Yes, they are in that order, thumb to pinky.
@llamabeans7 жыл бұрын
Kyong Lee That's what I thought; thank you for letting me know. They are all quite beautiful!
@Dragon019733 жыл бұрын
How would you do this with gel polish?
@KyongLee3 жыл бұрын
You can use gels as a base color and do the pigment stamping on top. There are specifically formulated gel stamping polishes if you want to use them for stamping. Most regular gels won't work for stamping though.

I love this! What kind of top coat do you use after to "seal the deal?"
@KyongLee6 жыл бұрын
If it's just pigment stamping, you can usually just use your regular top coat. If you have a full nail or you're concerned about the pigment crinkling, use a water based top coat first. I use either UNT Peel off base coat or Sophi Water based topcoat.
