It reminds me of the time I was a kid and used to play with the pet turkey we had on the backyard. This turkey was massively big, wide and tall. I had so much fun feeding it and chasing it around. That fun however, ended once we had dinner one night. We were eating chicken I thought or something. And for whatever reason I hadn't seen the turkey at all that day so I asked about it. My grandma straight up told me "Oh you're eating that turkey, boy!" I have not been the same since that day.

Poor Little Pikamee, the time as a kid when you learn where food comes from. For me, it was when we were about to go home form staying a week at the farm with my grandparents. I was asked to help my grandma prepare the chicken we were to have for dinner. I held the wings with one hand and the legs with the other and grandma held the head with one hand and sliced the neck with the other. A minute of flapping and feet wiggling and another minute till stillness. That was a visceral learning experience for a six-year-old.
@MrCh0o2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that's pretty brutal. I only ever had to witness a headless animal move from afar (I think I saw both a pig and a chicken), but that sure was extremely unsettling. I would probably have quite a few nightmares if I had to directly participate

From my mothers side, whenever a kid named one of the animals at the farm, everyone always said the same "damn, now we can't eat it...". Which is why they always told the kids to not name them or get too attached. I can't help but think one of my ancestors favourite pig got eaten, and once he inherited the farm, banned anyone from getting too close to the animals again... yet still respects the bond once its made.

When my sister was little my grandparents took her fishing. She caught a fish and named it Melissa. Grampa asked her what she wanted to do with Melissa and she said "Cut her head off and fry her and eat her" so that's what they did. (That was the plan from the beginning; they just wanted to be sure she was on board with it.)

@Earthzooka2 жыл бұрын
@@dgarrard100 I can understand the mentality behind it. Probably didn't want to deal with it by letting it out of the cage so she decided to do it the round about way. That said, I agree with you. Tortured to death like that is really awful.
@saellanya2 жыл бұрын
@@dgarrard100 Actually, drowning seems to be one of the less worst way to go. Once the lung fills with water you almost immediately lose consciousness. The bad part is the panic and the "try to hold air in". The process can be worst if the cage is not completely submerged and the mouse exhaust itself trying to stay out of the water. But if the cage is 100% submerged, the mouse wont suffer. Panic of course (that's inevitable) but wont suffer
@4nero_Dem0n1c2 жыл бұрын
@@dgarrard100 yeah I was 6 back then and it was pretty traumatizing but right now I realized it was the cleanest way possible cause poison would just waist stuff and can't just butcher it cause it would be really messy right now if I see one nearby I just release it a kilometer away
@MrCh0o2 жыл бұрын
@@dgarrard100 I mean, to be fair, besides perhaps using some poison (and not every poison, especially something that's available and not extremely expensive for killing an already trapped mouse, is painless) or suffocating it in inert atmosphere (which would work, but then you have to have a vessel of inert gas out of nowhere), there aren't that many methods that are as quick and sure-fire. Can't really imagine the auntie holding the mouse and snapping it's neck successfully 10 out of 10 times

Reminds me of when I was young ass kid, I bought a chicken from the local market and bought it back home because I wanted it as a pet. The day after I went to check on it to play with it, but it was being cleaned up apparently. I was gone after and came back and was wondering what happened to my pet, Dad said its time for lunch and came carrying a steel pot with soup and dismembered chicken inside. My logical side of my brain immediately deduced it was the chicken which was butchered, my child side said that it was a delicious meal that my dad prepared with great care. I think that was the first time I thought about the concept of mortality and questioned it.
