PIKE-A-PALOOZA - 7/4/24

I've never caught so many Pike in one trip. And every single one of them was full of parasites. Very strange indeed. Still had a really good day of catching on my favorite stream!

Wow! Can't complain about the action. I had never caught a pike until my first trip to Minnesota 23 years ago. I was throwing a Zara spook in a shallow bay with pads and grass. A 25 inch pike hit that spook and knocked it 4 ft in the air and then took it before it hit the water on the way down. Very memorable , very stinky, very slimy and lots of fun. Thanks for the video.

After a morning of flinging lures with my Bait-caster, my shoulder is just trashed too. Not sure I can even do back go back days this year without being in considerable pain but every other day is manageable. Those parasites on those Pike are very strange. Sometimes our Summer Smallmouth get wormy looking too but nothing like that. I caught over a dozen Pickerel the other day and got bit off 3 or 4 times using a Texas rigged Keitech Easy Shiner I hate using leaders when I’m after Bass but in Pike water, you almost have to.

Same here Don. I think that steel leader spooks the big bass. But I hate the thought of losing a nice pricey lure too. Especially a big $wimbait!

Thank you for sharing your day it seems like it was overall a great day of fishing and catching fish. My Canadian friends love to catch pike they have the skills to clean them up real good to eat, not a big fan of them lol! It seems it comes with the territory and can’t escape them I will be catching them in the mix of catching bass. Oh goodness anyways great video tight lines take care and God bless.❤❤❤❤

Thank you. I ran into another Angler and he had a couple of Pike on his stringer. Said they're good eating. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't like it. I don't eat fish, really.

Welcome to Maine in 2024 where suddenly all the Beech Trees are dying from parasites and all the Pike are infected with parasites. I was here 7/7 and caught probably 10 small pike, 2 medium and no monsters. Mostly on a chatterbait mini max with 3" Yamamoto Zako. New to me in that stream was the amount of bass I was catching in there. Bass were loving a Texas rig 5" worm thrown into the pads and somehow I didn't get bit off on that rig without steel leaders. Where are the monster Pike hiding??

My biggest Pike came from a different area. The monsters are all in the main lake.

@@OldLadyAngler my largest is 28lbs 2 oz’s. Couldn’t measure it as it was to long for the board. But there is bigger in those lakes. Every year there is a half a dozen or so pike in the mid 30lb range caught.

@@OldLadyAngler ya, people been coming up here to make tv shows on the pike, fish the pike, study the pike etc for about 5 years pretty seriously now. our waters may have the potential to hold the world record. Where im fishing them in the effort to make the worlds best pike lure, and add some good pages for my book I’m working on.

How do you determine what color fluke to throw?

usually by water clarity. darker water.... darker fluke. Clear water.... I'll try to use a more natural color like Baby Bass color. Although the white fluke breaks all rules because it works everywhere for me.
