Pike Fishing with Lures on the Somerset Levels in Winter, UK

The local canals are giving us great fun with pike but so far I've not found a pike that hits and fights like a pike on the Somerset Levels! I'm still only using lures as it suits my mobile style of fishing, and, well, lures just look so pretty! I love adding the movement and varying the retrieve, working to find what works on the day, and fortunately I love walking as we walk a lot!
This video was filmed over two days, the first part I was on my own, and the second day I was joined by my good friend Jim, who caught more fish and spent most of the day laughing at me falling over!

I’ve only been there four times now and it changes a lot. That particular river colours up very quickly from water pumped off the levels and I’ve found it fishes better as it’s losing colour, the same as trout behave. But the level is up and down a lot. I think it’s going to be unfishable now for two weeks at least. I use RiverApp to show me the current river levels. The hits though are really impressive and they fight very strong. I know some cracking places on the levels and had plenty of 20 plus fish but they have been hit hard since some eastern Europeans seem to take all they catch. Luckily I have stopped a few of them when confronted.

@@WestCountryAngler try some of the smaller drains, Google satellite, on the edge of the levels, farmers readily give permission and they haven't been battered. Unbelievable the size some of the Pike get to in such small places. I don't do much now so don't mind giving info out. Ps. Can't wait for trout season.
