A good tip; I see everyone telling you to wait & let it take it... but also literally bring it in ALL the way in up to shore instead of pulling lure out 4-8 ft out. You'd be surprised fish follow the bait & get spooked. Maybe 40% of the fish I catch literally grab it when I have it on the bank pulling it out the water.
@jorwijma28185 жыл бұрын
Indeed, wait for few seconds until you feel traction, then hook it differently by a quick pull on your fishingrod.. so don't hook it by swinging your rod up, left or right... just give it a thrust and 9 out of 10 times, you'll hook the pike without losing it.. Oh and another tip: when you'll see pike sneaking up to your froglure, it's hunting it. Use good ol' fashion twitch 'n turn to let the pike attack te frog instantly.. it really works! --- > Great video! so thumbs up!!

After fishing with hollow body frogs in the uk for pike, I've found that its much much better to use a soft plastic frog/buzz toad on a double frog hook in terms of the hook up rate. the only problem is that they are difficult to find in the uk as we are about 40 years behind the us with lures. I've also found that unless the water is clear, pike hardly ever cleanly swallow a frog down. I've fished murky canals recently with frogs/spooks and had so many pike miss the lure/swipe at it, but then this afternoon I fished a gin clear shallow ish river and my hook up rate was 4/5. just got to accept that its frustrating. I would only use frogs where you have to, such as when its really weedy and the rest of the time use a popper/spook as you will hook up more.
@pvegod14845 жыл бұрын
a good example of a toad/soft plastic frog is either a Stanley ribbit or the zoom horny toad. you can rig this on either a double frog hook or a single large EWG hook (4/0). they are so much easier than hollow body frogs to fish, usually all you have to do is straight retrieve it across the surface keeping your rod high. when the fish hits lower the rod so theres no tension, let the fish eat It for a second or two then crack it hard. best to use a heavy frog rod with 40 pound plus braid
@paulhills25895 жыл бұрын
You need to bend the hooks out on those frogs, also tie a triple hook on back

the thing is if you ever watched a close-up of pike attacks, you've seen that they spit out the bait in matter of milliseconds when they get feel of the texture and stuff, so there's really not much time to give the fish, you must do it instantly. the problem is because it is a top water fishing and we can almost always see the fish coming for the attack and we tend to pull before it gets chance to grab nicely because of adrenaline rush. so yeah, not too soon, but definitely not give it a second or two, just hit it in a perfect timing

Pike hold their prey in their teeth instead inhaling like bass. The rubber frog wont slide through their teeth so setting the hook is a challenge. Try bending the hooks slightly outward. You can also attach a stinger hook by using a split ring at the base of the double hook on the frog. use a single hook, not a treble, with the hook point facing up. This will still be somewhat weedless and improve your hook ups.

Any tips on how to cast a weightless lure on a baitcaster?
@daniellaw89995 жыл бұрын
The rods too light and soft for the job you want it to do. To set the hook when frog fishing for pike you need a rod rated to around 60g. Also, don't strike at what you see, strike at what you can feel. You rely on feel for other forms of lure fishing, topwaters are no different. One last thing, unless the weed is actually up to the surface, use a different type of surface lure with exposed hooks, save the frogs for otherwise unfishable water.
@kkomedykking694 жыл бұрын

@michaelhall90786 жыл бұрын
I'd say anywhere from 20-60lb depending on how snaggy it is. If you know theres no snags you could possibly go as low as 10lb but theres no point imo. If your clipping a fiver to your trace you want to make sure you get it back! I got some Berkley Whiplash at 50lb but I think it cost £35 for 300m. Good stuff if you dont mind paying that much though. If you do snag badly make sure you dont put too much force through your rod and reel because they will break before your braid snaps
