It should also be noted that you need to have bottled water with you for the entire trip. It helps the body absorb more valuable oxygen. It prevents cramping and headaches.

Mike, years ago my father and I rode a much different train to the top of Pike's Peak in the summer time. To get a different view of the mountain we took the bus on the return trip and as I remember it was not as scenic as riding the train. I am a new subscriber although I have been watching your videos for a couple of months!

That sounds like a great adventure. I was shocked to learn that they host an annual car race on that road. Terrifying! Haha. Thank you so much for subscribing!

Thanks for posting this. I got suddenly very sick at the base so didnt get to go up. Apparently the train couldnt go all the way up due to snow anyway though. So it was neat to see it from your video

So sorry that happened to you. I get really bad altitude sickness, so I spent 3 days in Denver before attempting this. It helps to get a bit acclimatized first!
@livelovedaydream6 ай бұрын
@@RailWeekly I think that is the key! Slow, gradual acclimatizing. I'll have to visit again and be more prepared next time

It should be noted that the rack railway was actually invented here in the united states, in New Hampshire for the Mount Washington Cog Railway, opening in 1869

Great video with smooth edits and appropriate background music. What I also noticed is the excellent audio (I'm a radio broadcaster, so I notice things like that!). What mic and processing do you use? Your voice is fantastic!
@RailWeekly9 ай бұрын
Thank you so much! I’m a music producer as my full time job so I have a bit of a leg up. Haha. I edit in premier pro, and I record with a Neumann TLM 102. It’s my favorite mic I have ever had!
@chopperbillintexas58549 ай бұрын
I also use a Neumann mic in my V/O studio in my home, as well as a Symetrix voice processing unit. I edit on a Mac using Twisted Wave, but getting ready to transition to DaVinci Resolve Studio and use the audio processor part of the program. If you'd like to hear any of my work, I'd be glad to forward some samples. I can also assist if you need a "generic" voice for any of your projects...I'd be glad to help!@@RailWeekly

Very cool! Yes send whatever you would like! And I edit my audio on Reaper, also on Mac.

I looked for an email address for you, but unable to locate one. What is the best way to send you some audio cuts???@@RailWeekly

I rode the railroad today, April 25th. We were only able to go to approximately 11,00 ft, a little about the tree line. The track had about 6 feet of snow on it. A work crew was up ahead clearing the way to the summit. The visitors center was closed due to snow. It is up to Colorado Springs to decide when the visitors center can open.

I have heard of this happening from time to time. It just goes to show how inhospitable the conditions are on the mountain. I also feel really lucky that we made it all the way to the summit in January! Hope you still had a great time despite the short ride!
@marcusaurelius27707 ай бұрын
We did have a good time. We got the chance to see the track snow blower, and since we stopped on an area with about a 20 percent grade, we could stand up in the train car and felt how much the car floor was at an angle.

I assume the facilities are open and accessible there year round?
@RailWeekly8 ай бұрын
Yes round, yes. But they absolutely do close when weather conditions are too dangerous. You can also reach them by car when the train doesn’t run.

Assume paid extra for the front seat? Would u recommend it or are other seats as good?
@RailWeekly7 ай бұрын
It was only $10 extra! Well worth it and it’s by far and away the best view. You just have to book early enough to snag it! :-)

@@RailWeekly thank u for taking the time to reply. Coming from Scotland so it's definitely worth the extra few dollars to get the best seat
