When I was young there were toys similar to this called Popples. I don't think they were actual animals though. Just cute, weird stuffies that folded into a "pod" and then unfolded into the "popple."

Cats and sloths are two of my favorite animals (alongside sugar gliders and fennec foxes), so these Pikmis scratch a major itch! Yeah, the scents sometimes come out WEIRD, one of my Squeezamals was SUPPOSED to be "watermelon," nope, it was cucumber-melon Nair! Lol! Now it's mostly faded, thankfully.
