Luna really wants to meet the resident cats lol! Seemed like Maple was making a few jumps and swipes to her though, but thats understandable for a wild kitten 😸😸. I don't think either Piko or Maple were being hostile, they were just reacting to a wild kitten. Notice Piko was just trying to sniff Luna, but being a energetic kitten that she is, she over-reacted and that started Piko off. Maple was only jumping at Luna on the cat door because Luna was running full-sprint at the door lol. I believe it's still too early to say how both cats will react to her. Wonderful cats ❤❤❤

Yeah, it's a bit difficult to be sure, but my take is that Luna is so excited that she can't contain herself, and a bit frustrated. She's also a little scared of the older cats, and maybe she needs a bit more time to get used to Piko the Grump. If these were my cats, I would try to have them "meet" by cracking the door open a bit, and maybe feed them snacks on either side of the door. It seems that opening the cat flap was a bit too intense at this stage.

I think the next best introduction stage is to feed the cats at the same time in front of each other so they associate each other with good feelings. Still keeping the partion up and feeding everyone upstairs together where they see each other eating so they feel no competition for resources and territory but they will think when we see each other - good things like food happen. 😋 Good luck! ❤️

Luna and Maple may just want to be able to play with each other and the cat flap is getting in the way! Luna is just trying to make herself look bigger than she is by fluffing up and arching her back.

I had a feeling this wouldn't go down too well with Piko. Maple seems a bit more relaxed. Luna is scared, that's why she's fluffed out her fur. I'm not suggesting you did wrong, far from it. Patience is the key factor here. You must be feeling a bit unsure of what to do, so take my tip. Let Maple and Piko watch Luna through the cat flap for about an hour or so, each day. Increase the length of time spent watching gradually, and hopefully Luna will understand that Maple just wants to be friends with her. Piko might take longer to understand, don't rush him. Just sit it out as well as you can, and Lady Luck might come your way.

@@evoo6 It's not that easy, mate. Piko and Maple were both curious to find out what was going on. When they both saw Luna, the poor kitten was scared out of her wits. We have to be patient, and help the lady sit it out for as long as she needs to. You can't rush the art of learning to accept a newcomer into one's territory. Piko isn't going to accept Luna as family overnight, it doesn't work that way. Eventually, as the days go by, Piko might be more willing to accept Luna as family, not before. Slow and steady is the key to a happy cat family. Remember that.

@@ingridvaneijk2097 Patience. This cannot be rushed. If Luna were let out now, Piko might think of attacking her, which isn't what we want to see. It's gonna take time for friendship to gel between the three. Did you not notice how scared of Maple Luna was? The meeting needs to be slow and gradual. Think back to when you spent your first day at school. Bet it took some time for you to build a friendship bond with the other pupils. Also, it's like learning to ride a two-wheeler bike. At first, you lose control and you fall off. Slow and steady is the key to success. It'll take time for Maple and Piko to accept Luna as part of their cat family. Imagine how you would feel if Piko growled angrily at innocent little kitty you, upon first sighting.

@@ingridvaneijk2097 We're talking about two grown cats with different personalities here. Maple seems to like Luna, but Piko isn't too happy about a newcomer on their patch. Maple is a calm observer, Piko is a grouchy-pants. He only likes being stroked on his own terms. He has back problems because he's a lot older than Maple and Luna. It's more difficult for an older cat to accept a young playful kitten as family. I've had this experience myself, so I should know what I'm talking about.

@@ingridvaneijk2097 It won't be going on for months on end. It takes a few weeks at least for grown cats to accept a young kitten as family. Luna's previous owner gave her up because of allergies. Luna had to be taken in by someone. Say Luna had appeared on your doorstep, having been given up due to her owner suffering allergies to her. Would you leave Luna to die of starvation, just because you have grown cats in your abode already? Or would you take her in and sit it out, till your grown cats happily accepted Luna as family, even if it took a few weeks?

My opinion doesn't matter much but when you have two cats who don't get along but that's what you want them to do, and then you bring another cat into the mix, another cat to deal with when you cannot get the original pair to get along, bringing this innocent new kitty in the mix and expecting it to take on a relationship with two strangers that don't get along, you've made a bad decision. Luna is not the answer.

Something feels wrong, off. You want them to associate, being together, with positive feelings, so you can feed them on both side of the door. But you could also just open the door by now. It should be fine. Don't overthink this.
