I’m wondering why you designed this sound unit so that it does not match the wheel speed of the locomotive. Your mogul sound system perfectly matches the chuff with the wheel rotation. Why wasn’t the same quality built into this one?

Great series of videos ! I'm new to God scale and have just purchased a few European Pico Locks. I'm thinking of making my new garden railway DCC...can you do a few videos on installing the DCC decoders into the BR 24 and 64 ? Thanks!

Can you guys make a video on how to reprogram the analog sounds?

Hi... The 36221 Analog Sound boards are designed differently from digital boards and they are not changeable. They sound exactly as you hear in this video. The 36220 Digital Sound Set has items that are changeable like the chuff rate, whistles, bells, as well as numerous other CV's controlling just about every function of the locomotive and motor.

Hello Piko, I just installed one of these sound kits in my PIKO Union Pacific 0-6-0 last weekend. Overall, it went well. However, my big problem is the chuff rate is so slow compared to the speed, it seems to be WAY off. Is there a way to adjust this, is there a reason the rate is so far off? I'm a bit disappointed. I was considering buying a sound kit for my PIKO Mogul, or my Taurus, but now I'm not so sure.

Ted, the 36221 Analog Sound Kit is a non-adjustable sound kit and was designed to work for most folks - who tend to run trains faster than prototypical speed. Our other current American sound kit, the 36220 Steam Sound Kit, IS adjustable using a DCC system and can have the chuff rate adjusted as well as numerous other things that can be changed. Give us a call if you have questions.

Same. Disappointing. The sound units for the Moguls match the wheel speed quite well.

@@zakkmps The good news is I do have 3 Moguls with sound, and sound in my Taurus now. They all sound and work great!

Is this sound unit only for analog or will it function with more sound options with a dcc system? In the video the chuffing does not appear to be synchronized with the side rods. It's the sound synchronized or one speed?

Zamora, The specific sound unit in this video is the PIKO 36221 American Steam Sound Kit for Analog. If you would like the nicer digital sound kit, which also works on DC systems, you will want this video of the PIKO 36220 Steam Sound Kit for DC/DCC. kzbin.info/www/bejne/i2nGkJeQob6aq9E&t= You are correct about the chuff... the 36220 digital kit can easily have the chuff rate adjusted, however the 36221 kit is a simpler sound system and does not have the ability to adjust the chuff rates. The chuff rate does speed up and slow down with speed/power adjustments, however you cannot change it to whatever rate you want. (On the 36220 digital sound kit, a perfect 4 chuffs per revolution is usually a CV value around 38-40)

Hello, I have same Christmas analog train and I tried to look for the 5V smoke generator but couldn't find it at piko DE. So I sent a query to PIKO and got a reply that I can also use Piko 36141 (24V), which is meant to work with digital. So I send again an email with this concern and they confirmed that 36141 will work with analog loco. As an expert with hands-on could you please confirm it too? The reply I got was from Marketing department but I don't really trust the Marketing team.

I see the correct 36142 5-Volt Smoke Unit and 36143 5-Volt Regulator available at www.piko-shop.de so I think they should be available through your PIKO retailer, or direct from the website. The 36141 will work, but very poorly. The loco must be running very fast to see any smoke. The 36142/36143 combination (you need both!) works great even at low speed. Remember to buy a nice big bottle of PIKO 36210 Smoke Fluid!

Thank you. Now I can see the voltage regulator is available again.
