Good informative video, no fuss and achieves it's objective. I cant believe that Babs Courtney commented three years ago. This is the first time I have heard of the replacement screws used as pick ups on the ball bearing wheels. Of course I am in the UK so I don't know about availability?

I installed one 30mm wheel set on my 2-axle tender to have electrical pick up for the sound system in the tender and there are some visible sparks coming from those wheels as it runs with power being fed to the track. This can't be normal? I did solder the slide on contacts in for a sturdier fit.

@Perro Hilo, We had not heard of this happening... it could be that this is because only one wheelset was used? Using two wheelsets should reduce this. If you are in North America, you can always contact us at [e-mail] for assistance.

Are you running electric current through the bearings? That's no good.. It is known to destroy bearings. In the machine industry, they even add contact wipers to conduct away static charges from moving parts, to avoid them discharging through bearings. Bit I might have misunderstood?

In high-voltage, high-current industrial applications, that would be a big concern. But ball-bearing wheels have been used for the lower-power needs of G-Scale trains for a couple decades. We have been selling the PIKO ball-bearing wheels for many years and have never had even one single set of wheels come back! Our customers don't typically hesitate to let us know of any issues, so it seems like we would have heard from someone. These wheels work great and they keep working.

@@PIKOAmerica Ok thanks for the response.. what I heard was that even the static charge from the parts moving alone is a concern .. but OK you have no problems with it. Wish there were more trains with ball bearing!

Wait so... power is being transferred through the bearings? I thought that was a no-no for bearing life..

That is a concern where high voltage and current are involved. But for G-Scale purposes, it seems to be no problem. We've been selling large quantities of our wheels for many years. We know our customers don't hesitate to let us know of any issues with any product. And we still haven't had even one report of a problem.
