Some of the port by chopper, but it is easy to hurt pilot's shoulder during hanging , and hurt knee or leg during landing on ship, esp. in rough weather.

This combination is the most ideal and due to the distance apart from the gangway and pilot ladder, i believe thats the only choice left even though is almost reaching the top.. The pilot ladder i believe is secured to a drum therefore unable to shift but definietly a safer choice of boarding during rough seastate..

Wrong combination: steps not horizontal, distance to the gangway too high, no OOW with radio on the gangway platform, platform not horizontal, pilot without life vest, gangway could have been lowered to the next eyes, but that's too f*´"&king hard work for the crew because the ladder needs to be rigged accordingly (only 1 drum). Remember, crew members NEVER embark like this, so why should they care. REFUSAL is/was the only viable solution

At least in this case if you fall, you land in the water. I used to have to climb down into the ship hold which is 40 feet straight down. if you fall, you're toast!

Right Coast I have several friends work as cargo hull gauging, whenever they climbing up, I watched down on the tank top, always saluting to those amazing people.
