Thanks Jim, I do learn from your sketching. But, I really enjoy your narratives. You have a calm welcoming voice in a world that won’t stop screaming. I really appreciate you and your art.

Thank you for saying that. My “ virtual self” has no noisy competition, no interruptions to stem the flow of thought. To think that someone is listening to me because they want to hear me is so gratifying.

I thoroughly enjoyed your sketching out the old cabin. A friend of mine is at church brought to my attention, and I decide to watch it tonight. It was wonderful. Please keep this up.

Absolutely loving your channel and sketching style, Jim! I actually prefer a real time and more of a tutorial so that’s my feedback 😘 The longer the better because I can settle it, and really observe what you’re doing

Thanks so much. I’ll certainly work on some longer videos to show how I go through the process.

I am debating whether I like it just in ink or with the watercolor. My "main" art is pen and ink. I waited a long time before adding W/C. I am tending toward just black and white. What intrigues me is the fountain pen instead of Microns (favorite is the .005, very fine). I just purchased Pilot parallel pens in differing widths. Great for calligraphy but on the edge it makes a fine drawing pen. I will look for more of your tutorials. I am also interested in water soluble inks. I love the rough sketchy look. Oh, so much to learn and play with! Thank you!

Thanks for the great comment. I also like the black and white of ink drawings, and lately the brown ink as well. I have loaded one fountain pen with water soluble ink and love the simple shading with water and brush after. You have probably seen my sketches using water soluble ink and brush over a waterproof ink sketch, those came out nice. I recently purchased a bent nib and like that a lot as well, fine and thick lines in the same drawing, you can probably get same effects with your parallel nibs. You are right, so much to play and learn. And then sometimes some sketches just need that splash of water colour. Have fun. Thanks again for watching. Jim

Hiya Jim, Thanks for another really inspiring video. I'll have to get a couple of fine or ef nibs for my fountain pens, as most of the ones that I write with are either stub or cursive italic, although I do have a Rotring drawing pen with an ef nib. Take care, David.

Hi David, i purchased the fountain pen for writing letters a while back but really like the feel when drawing. I have a Rotring but can’t remember why I stopped using it, have to did it out.

You’ve probably told us already, but what fountain pen do you use, what paper/sketchbook? I love these videos!!!

I used a Pilot fountain pen and I think that was a small notebook, check the end of the video for the supply list. Thanks so much for watching.

Excellent work! While, I’m not an artist whatsoever, I’ve been following several channels. religiously for years. I’ve been interested in watercolor, oil, and charcoal… I have all the equipment and materials, but I just can’t “put the pen to the paper”… It’s hard to explain, but I’ve put such a high value on my art supplies, I feel like I’m going to just waste them… It’s a debilitating problem I need to somehow overcome… Any suggestions would be great! Subscribed 🙏🏻

Thanks for watching, and the comment. I understand your dilemma, although I have always drawn, since childhood, I am still reluctant to start a new drawing pad, but after the first page it becomes easier. Like a new car that you may be nervous to drive and get dirty, after a bit you become more comfortable and the seat forms to your body and you aren’t so nervous anymore. I’m not sure what I could suggest. I have often had periods where I didn’t draw, or things weren’t coming out right. When I started the KZbin art channel I also joined the Ottawa urban sketchers, and both of those things made me draw a lot more, every day. I screw up a lot of the time but when it comes out it feels great. If there is a sketching group near you, it might be good to join, I have gotten so much encouragement from other members. Start a sketch journal, don’t think too much about it, just draw the first random thing you see, and keep the pad and pencil out where you see it every day ( ie: coffee table ) If you wanted to share I could make a journal to share as well ,I could give you my email address and it would make us both draw on a regular basis. Don’t forget, there is no bad art.

@@SketchingwithJim-cv7nkFantastic reply! Thank you so much! I used to draw quite a bit when I was a child, but for whatever reason, I just stopped doing it. I have several (empty) journals, several fountain pens... water colors and oils. The pens aren't much of a concern, it's the journals LOL. The watercolors aren't much of a concern either... it's the Arches paper LOL. As you suggested, I just need to give it a go. After all, it's just a sketch journal... I'll do as you suggest, and have at it... Thank you for your time!
