This is one of my favorite no-drama, non-controversial blues. Solid.
@AnInkGuy3 жыл бұрын
I agree it is solid... probably why it is a favorite blue for so many fountain pen users.

My journey with iroshizuku inks started with this ink. Most people i know who like or buy iroshizuku inks, have a bottle of this ink in their collection.

Good starting place for sure.

I have this, and I love it. One thing I quite like is how it's consistent with the colour from one nib size to the next because even in the fine nibs and pens with conservative flows, the ink is wet and flows as such with a nice and juicy line even in extra fines. Can't fault it one bit.
@AnInkGuy3 жыл бұрын
When an ink is very consistent, like this, I call it boring... because I know exactly what I'm going to get. And boring in this case is beautiful.
@yrknutzreek3 жыл бұрын
I know what you mean. Boring , yes, but an element of tranquility or beauty that can balance out overstimulation from flashiness or surprise or unpredictability that is all well and good, but sometimes a boring aesthetic is what you want and need.

I agree with you on swatching. Artists who use cotton wool buds with their ink must find it useful but I think it misleads fountain pen users. I’ve been lured into wasting quite a bit of money on writing inks that only deliver when applied by the bucket load.
@AnInkGuy7 ай бұрын
I only do the swatches (1) to see the resistance test and (2) a lot of people like them. But for me I look at the writing for a true idea of the ink.

I noted that you said you never saw any red tones when using this ink. However, using Cosmos Air Light paper and a Pelikan 800 fine nib, there is a lot of this red sheen visible. Of course using the Mnemsyne there was none of that red sheen. I also assume the fancy Regalia paper would also sheen just like the Cosmos does.
@AnInkGuy Жыл бұрын
Paper can greatly affect how an ink performs. So I it is cool that if gives a red sheen on the Cosmo Air Light.

Hi Adam, man I love your channel!! I'm not sure how many videos I've watched, but it's got to be more than 100 so far. I really appreciate your approach, dependable methods, and commentary. I have an ink question...can you think of an ink that has similar properties to Kon Peki only in a different color? I ask because I'm writing with Kon Peki in an 823 (F), and I love the way it performs, but I'm not crazy about the color. I'd prefer a red or even another blue, but when it comes to blues, I like bold blues like Bay State, Diamine Sapphire Blue, Waterman Serenity. Diamine Ancient Copper didn't behave well at all in the 823, so....yeah. Now I'm rambling. Sorry!

For a Blue perhaps Private Reserve Cosmic Cobalt, for a red maybe Graf von Faber0-Castelle Garnett red.

This Iroshizuku has always been a crowd favourite for so many fountain pen (ink) lovers. I see this ink as dealer’s choice because it’s such a popular must-have ink, but you might disagree and that’s absolutely fine.
@AnInkGuy3 жыл бұрын
I is a popular "must have" as long as you ever use blue ink. I use it frequently at work and still manages to pop off the page, has a life to it.

This is a nice blue, and maybe a little more exciting than the typical blue. I too rarely ever saw sheen with this one.

This is my favorite color in watercolor and I love this ink...unfortunately it is my first bottle I’ve broken. I have Smurf toes to prove it. That was two days ago, but I was able to rescue about 9 mls. Thanks for another great review.
@AnInkGuy3 жыл бұрын
Oh no! Smurf toes, lol. I don't know that this counts in the empty bottle challenge. We will hold a memorial service later today in remembrance of the lost ink. Cerilion blue is you favorite blue for watercolor, did you like it as much as your fountain pen ink?
@mwGoosman3 жыл бұрын
Almost…it’s just about impossible to get this ink out of beige carpet! This has dimmed my enjoyment of this ink as I tried for two hours with the carpet cleaner…light acids (vinegar) and stronger bases (baking powder and Clorox wipes). Now that the area rug is rearranged, I’m done with it. Later on, my husband suggested isopropyl alcohol and it did work, but…with the heat and the carpet cleaner, I’m still done. I have a bottle of Noodlers Navajo Turquoise that I will check out as a consolation….
@AnInkGuy3 жыл бұрын
Sorry about the carpet.... but it is something we must all do at one point in our lives. At least Navajo Turquoise is a really great ink... hardly a consolation prize.

When you find a Pelikan you love, it’s an amazing thing, isn’t it? I have an M205 that is my favorite broad writer. When I get down the list to it, there’s going to be an M800 in my flock! The M1000 is incredible, but a tiny bit too big for my comfort. I’m glad you found the right ink to marry to yours!
@AnInkGuy3 жыл бұрын
I didn't expect this ink and pen to match so perfectly, just most times I pick it up I want Kon Peki in it. That means for me it becomes a perfect match, both pen and ink make me smile.

From my color settings on my screen, which I calibrated with microsoft and web pages, this blue looks like an exact copy of Robert Oster's Blue River, made for Vanness Pens, this year.
@AnInkGuy3 жыл бұрын
I don't have Robers Oster's Blue River to be able to speak intelligently about it. From the comment on color calibration I can only assume that once again some other channel has been talking about why they don't do ink reviews and all the issues that come with doing them. All obstacles for sure, I just try to do my best with tackling them. I also color calibrate my monitor at the beginning of every month, along with working at color correction of the ink color in the video.

You have to properly colour grade your videos or they're pretty useless to judge colour. This ink is far more vibrant than it looks in your video.

I do the best I can with what I have... I probably noted more, or better lights as well. I will say this video is from June of 2021...
@pixiepaws99 Жыл бұрын
@@AnInkGuy For a few dollars, you can significantly improve the quality of the video: get yourself high CRI lighting, some neutral gray colour cards for white balance calibration, and configure your camera colour profile appropriately. Then post process your videos in something like davinci resolve. A lot of websites that sell fountain pen inks are bad at this too. They take photos of samples of the ink that look nothing like the do under my high CRI lights.
@AnInkGuy Жыл бұрын
@veegee2424 I do have a white balance/Grey card, and to the best I can in post. My computer is 14 years old but I do periodically calibrate the monitor. Then do the best I can with the paper next to the monitor... as far as my camera, it was stolen back at the Orlando show so I am saving up to get a new one. Like lighting, all this stuff takes time and money. I had a Zoom audio recorder gifted to me that I am trying to get my audio better. So many skills and I am just one dude playing in my spare time.
