I feel you on the pen boxes, David. We recently sold our home in Southern California and there just wasn’t room to bring all the boxes along. In particular I’m going to miss the Aurora boxes. I kept one-I think; it’s still in storage, if I did-but beyond that, all of my pens live in a more communal setting these days. Great video, as usual! Thanks for all the well researched and thoughtful reviews!

Great ink choice! I never realized that Yama Budo is a shading ink…I have this ink and need to use it more…just purchased a Pilot Falcon in the resin version and am enjoying its bounce… also have the soft medium and am very happy with the choice. The metal burgundy is quite lovely, but I’ll need to wait to appreciate my current choices. Thanks for sharing your review!

I picked a black Metal Falcon up on eBay for 110 a few years ago and it is the last fountain pen I bought. It is the best pen I have and I can’t bring myself to get a different one.

The Metal Falcon is close to a grail pen for me, primarily because of cost. When I get around to getting one of these, it will probably immediately occupy the slot of the most-expensive pen I own. I have the resin version, black and rhodium, SEF, and it is one of my favorite writing instruments I own. I just do wish it had a LITTLE more "heft" to it. Hence, why my eyes glaze over at the thought of the metal-bodied version.
@okeypokes47362 жыл бұрын
im trying to decide between which to buy. is the rhodium too light even posted? im afraid the 30 grams of the metal will be too heavy for long drawing section. I also much prefer the brown and blue metal colors. decisions decisions!
@TheNightowl0012 жыл бұрын
@@okeypokes4736 Posted, the resin models weigh 18 grams, the Metal Falcon weighs 33 grams. Unposted, the resin model is 10 grams and the metal version is 19 grams. Compare those with something you're using now. Whether a pen is too heavy, too light, or suitable for Goldilocks is so subjective I wouldn't be comfortable definitively saying a pen is too anything except just for me!

David, thank you for this review of the Metal Falcon and the resin Falcon a week or so ago. Always wondered what the differences were. I have a Namiki branded resin Falcon my family gave me for Christmas about 8 years ago -just as the branding was changing from Namiki to Pilot. Namiki nib sf, with John Mottishaw’s Spencerian Grind. Thanks for the info, I always wondered about the almost hidden number at the base of the nib -mine is 413 so I guess nib made in April 2013. Like you I wonder why don’t use it all the time. While I still haven’t taken the time to do calligraphy much less Spencerian Script, I find it a fantastic everyday writer been using it non stop the last 3 months, everything from signing charge receipts, correspondence, daily journaling, and keeping pill taking logs post hospital stays. It has always had GvFC Moss Green ink in it and it always starts even when I do occasionally let it sit unused for a couple of weeks. Thanks a lot and keep doing what you do.

Thank you for posting the two videos about the Falcons. If you had to pick one, which would you prefer?

Of the two...even thought I wish the resin version had a bit more heft, I'd choose that one over the metal. But they are both great pens.

Thanks for the review. I had the resin version with a SEF nib which was a mistake. Far too thin forgetting the thinness of the line. I like that it comes with the CON-70 converter. The price is not outrageous and worth considering, again, in the metal version.

I bought my Elabo from a Japanese seller at a pen show with a SEF nib in brown and enjoy writing with it a lot. I got a good deal on the pen too. Thanks for an enjoyable review.

This is my favorite pen, hands down, no competition. When I use it, I think my handwriting looks the closest to my "real" handwriting, compared to other fountain pens I have that do influence the style of my script. I have the black/rhodium metal body and I am still amazed how lightweight it is. I momentarily thought I had been sent the resin version by mistake when I first unboxed it and felt how light it is. My only gripe is that, at least with the EF nib, it has a high likelihood of getting dust stuck in the tines over longer writing sessions, especially with wetter inks. I avoid using it on Hobonichi TRP for that reason.

Looked at from the side, I've always felt that the nib and feed come together to look like a falcon's beak.

Metal Falcon is my favorite pen. Have been using it for almost four years now. SF, black, Iroshizuku Kon-Peki, Monteverde Horizon Blue.

Your videos are great. I want to add a pilot customers urishi. I own a pilot 823 and 845 and a pilot 912 with updated feed. May go for this metal one too really like it. My question is regarding the pilot coston urushi. I found it on a Japanese store for $850 and on eBay for $675 the eBay seller has 100 percent positive feedback, and has sold over 1000 units. I am afraid to buy on eBay what do you think ?

I quite like the Falcon, but I think I'd rather have a CH912 with an FA nib. I appreciate it's a slightly different nib, but the effect is very similar.

I've ordered the metal falcon because I like a pen with heft and the fact it uses the con 70 converter. The shape of the nib is an attention grabbing feature. Really looking forward to using this pen.

Another difference is that while the plastic falcon comes with the con-40, the con-70 does not fit.

@@FigbootonPens yes. Its mass production junk (well made and engineered, no doubt) but it's still made by robots, spit out of factory in masses. Production line, and materials do not cost so much to justify 250. 0.2g of gold costs nothing :)
