There is a big difference. The con 70 won't fit in the resin model.

My thoughts exactly. I just don't know if spending $60 more on the Metal Falcon just for the converter....

"the only difference is the weight" I thought the resin falcon could not fit the large-capacity CON-70 converter?
@NicolasPare

Why would you specifically make a video showing the differences between two pens, when you have no idea what the differences are between the two? - Weight and Size are different - Pilot metal falcon can use a CON 70, not the resin version - Center embelishment rings are different (Extra small ring on the resin pen) - Bottom cap is different (color of pen for resin, chrome look for metal) - Top cap different (color of pen with chrome disc for resin, all chrome for metal) - Metal falcon not all metal, grip section is resin - Body colors of course - I'm probably forgetting some

I have both resin falcon sef and 743 FA. The highlight of the falcon really is that 10g weight. It also writes quite wet for an EF, which brings out lighter colour inks really well. I don't know if Falcon is really advertised as a flex, but in any case the reality is it needs too much pressure and you will hurt your hand. 743 FA does flex without straining your hand and is beautiful, tho many people mess up their tines flexing the pen incorrectly. Mine never had the problems people warn of, in 743 with con 50 or in 823 vac. I love the resin falcon. That lightness is to be cherished. Metal might be more temperature resistant but the feed and I think the section too are still plastic, so the metal is just not an advantage. Still I'm curious about it. The extra weight probably makes flex less strenuous.

So...which is it? The pens are identical except for the weight? Or are the nibs different? This was very confusing.

Pens and Tea is so how I feel in the morning when I write! Boom. I love tea. I love fountain pens, and journals. I really like the look of the Falcon nib. I know you’re not a fan, but I’m obsessed with the con-70. I’m not super into metal pens, yet 😂

Confusing indeed, that the pen is called Falcon when they have a Falcon (FA) nib which isn’t on it. Should have just called it Elabo like they do in Japan.

Got the 912 with no.10 FA nib. Definitely superior to Falcon's soft nib in terms of flex. With a hacked feed outperforms my '40s Mabie Todd.

I much prefer the extra heft of the metal version and the fact you can fit a con 70 to it, whereas you can only use a con 40 with the resin. You do get a con 70 with the metal version. I'm told you can get a Spencer Ian adaption for the nib on the Falcon to make it a flex nib. I'm also told it's not a flex nib as such like the FA nib on the 912. I prefer the metal Falcon to the 912 as it has some nicer design features like the clip and the weight.

I second MultiEbbot's question -- when is a Falcon nib not a Falcon nib? I have a somewhat older Falcon. How would I know if it's a Falcon nib on it?
@PensandTea
@PensandTea 6 жыл бұрын
+13noman1 the Pilot Falcon Pen has a “soft fine nib” on it. Pilot also makes a nib called the “falcon” nib (commonly denoted as the FA nib) that is completely different from the nib on the Falcon Pen. The FA nib actually had cut outs on both sides to allow it to flex wider and with more ease than the soft fine nib.

Are the nib sections interchangeable can you take one and screw into the other? Not talking about pulling the nibs but just swapping the sections. Thanks

The Falcon pen has a soft nib. The Falcon nib is a semi-flex nib. They are shaped completely differently. You can see the Falcon pen's nib in the video - it has a cool shape, with no "shoulders" and an arched structure near the breather hole. Here's a link to the Goulet page for the Pilot Custom 912, with the Falcon or FA nib. You can see from their images (they have a great photographer!) that the nib is shaped more like a regular nib, with those two half-moon cutouts (one on either side), which is what allows it to "flex." I haven't ever tried an FA nib, but from reviews that I've watched, I believe it is flexier than the nib on the Falcon pen. www.gouletpens.com/pilot-custom-912-fountain-pen-black-falcon/p/PN71619

Try SEF, it’s really interesting for sketching but I wouldn’t recommend it for writing, because you have to hold it lightly to avoid scratchy feel. I like the plastic version (haven’t tried metal). Even uncapped the weight feels great.

Thank you, Kerry, for an interesting review. I wish I knew the correct spelling of your name. I apologise for any mistake/s. Would you consider making a comparison between this nib and the Falcon nib in a separate video, if possible? I bought a resin Elabo last week. Not received it yet but really curious. Kind regards, Violetta

I agree! I would love to hear Kerry's take on these nibs in a side-by-side comparison. Here's a video that has no sound but offers a very thorough (probably longer than necessary) writing comparison among the SEF and SF nibs in the Pilot Falcon pen, and the FA nib in a Custom 742 pen (which is Pilot's #10 size nib - same size that comes in the Custom 912). What I miss in this video is commentary on the writing experience - the *feel* of the different nibs against paper and while flexing. kzbin.info/www/bejne/n6bUpWmohreMsKs
