This is awesome, I just ordered the parallel pens off Amazon since I'm a beginner, after reading many, many....reviews and looking at pricing, I figured this would be a good starter. The cost was reasonable compared to,many other options....so many choices 😬😳, yikes!!! And I figures being a fountain pen maybe it wouldn't be as messy, while I'm learning. One less thing to have to focus on (keep ink closed, keep nib clean, keep hands clear of writing, etc....

Since you have got a lot of options of pens around you, can you figure out a cheap alternative barrel to fit the pilot parallel pen feed? I mean they are so fragile. But they make the easiest and crispy nibs
@sevensadforests3 жыл бұрын
I like Pilot parallel pens because of user-friendliness. But if you want to make your letters look sharper it's better to go with a traditional nib.

this feels like an ad for Pratik Pen. nothing wrong with advertising products, but let’s not pretend that this a sensible product comparison as this is not apples-to-apples comparison. for crying out loud, never mind the fact that parallel pen is cartridge-based, there isn’t even a parity on nib with sizes. it doesn’t make sense to have a winner between these 2 products because they serve different purposes for the most part (although there are overlaps). a better comparison would have been with the Automatic Pen. you even said it yourself. also, you failed to mention the cost of Pratik Pens.

I haven't tried the Pratik Pen, it is a brand I have never heard of to be honest. I am a total beginner in writing with a Pilot Parallel Pen. I am slowly practising with it, I love the cap design, the ink colour range, the nib size. It does bleed sometimes on the other side of the paper if I use thinner paper and if I apply too much pressure. I love the leaflet inside the pen's pack, it contains exercises for different kind of writing styles. For a beginner like me this is very important. I am very pleased with the Pilot Parallel Pen, except that I have to agree with you. The ink cartridges empty in a flash and you have to change them a lot. But I am pleased the pen has its own equipment to clean your pen from the previous colour before using another coloured cartridge. And my highlight favourite would be that if you own 2 Pilot Pens you can use them to write letters with 2 inks (thanks to the shape of the pen nib). This is brilliant and almost alchemistic! I will however look out for the Pratik Pen, I liked the fact it is hand-made. Thanks for the very informative video! 💯🙏🏻✒👌🏻📖🧡

Oh, my... the Pratik pens aren't exactly cheap (on eBay), and it's not always easy to find 'em singly. They're more expensive than Automatic pens (which these seem to be just another version of), which I thought were pretty overpriced for what they are. The Automatics are not too bad singly, but if you want a bunch of them, it gets dear pretty fast. I've been making my own using full hard temper stainless steel stock and hardwood dowels.

I've wanted the PPP for a long time and finally got a set just this week. Previously I've attempted calligraphy with the starter Steadtler set. I was hoping learning would be easier with a cartridge rather than a dip pen. But the ink flow is never steady and frustrating anyways. Are you supposed to dip the pen in water or anything....clean the nip before putting it away until it's next use? I'm always shaking the sh*t out of it to get it to start flowing again. argggg…. Anyways, I love watching how it's supposed to be done!
@CalligraphyMasters4 жыл бұрын
Good questions and I get why you ask them, cause I've been there too, will try to show the answer of those and some more in a video soon.
@someonenamedbob4 жыл бұрын
When I was using the cartridges that the PPP came with I had nothing but trouble. Since I've converted the back half of my PPP to an eye dropper pen the ink flow has been significantly more even as long as I have sufficient ink in the barrel. Also if you have an ink converter you could adjust the pressure a bit when needed. But those ink cartridges were absolutely terrible.
@JustDustyB2 жыл бұрын
@@someonenamedbob how did you convert the back to eyedropper?
@someonenamedbob2 жыл бұрын
@@JustDustyB You're going to need somsilicone grease or something to prevent leakage from the back half without permanently gluing things together, I recommend silicone grease a tiny tube of it will last you literally forever. Second you apply a bit of grease/whatever around the threads on the clear plastic part and spread it around the threads, you don't need much your just trying to take up the space between the threads not apply a layer of caulking. Thirdly fill the opaque grey plastic part with your favorite ink to a level below the threads on the inside of this part, I'd recommend against overfilling as the ink capacity becomes quite generous and the barrel will need a bit of air to prevent a vacuum that stops ink from feeding. Step four screw them together. Step five PROFIT. Whatever kind of grease you use just make sure it won't dissolve plastic.

Thanks for showing the Pratik pen, first time Ive seen this brand. I have two sizes of the pentel parallel pen--i love its sharpness. I'll check out pratik pen when I get one. Thanks for mentioning about paper weight--very important how the paper reacts with the ink. I had to calligraph a baptismal certificate using India ink but had to switch to fountain pen using shaeffer ink cartridge as the paper bled the India ink--so disappointed. 😭 The paper weigh is probably just 25 lb.

The pigment based ink works with the parallel better if you dip it, I know they say the pigment based ink clogs easily, more so than the dye based, I use the Windsor Calligraphy Brand, Eco line, and Higgins Dye Based Ink, I like the pilot parallel pen I find you have to work fast with the pigment ink in the parallel, the Higgins Sepia works extremely well in the pilot parallel.

i own a 3 of the pilot parallel pens 1.5 ,2.4,3.8 i love them all but your right the filling of the cartridges is a pain. on one hand you can write with it far longer with using the cartridge. on another hand you cant just switch inks whenever you want you have to take it apart which can be annoying, but i made a type of flat pen out of a mcdonald's straw and a hair band it wasn't very good though. i dont use alot of watercolor and i have alot of fountain pen ink. im not very good i got them i've used them a few times and i put them in my box with the rest of my pens its a shame i should write with them more but the urge will strike and i will have them to use :) love your work :)

As with all specialized pens, it feels almost meditative because you have to be in the moment. You have to concentrate on each letter you are forming.
