Pilot, Penny In My Pocket, Arrows Show

Pilot, with their hit single Penny In My Pocket. A fabulous song from the UK band Pilot featuring the fluid guitar of Ian Bairnson, and the stellar vocals (way up high in the Graham Nash range!) by David Paton - From The Arrows Show, Pilot are introduced by Terry Taylor and Alan Merrll of the Arrows. Stuart Elliot, Pilot's drummer is AWOL on the clip (anyone know who it is filling in for him?) the late great Billy Lyall is also awol on keyboards in this clip, Peter Oxendale filling in on keyboards for Billy. Steve Swindells on drums for Stuart Elliot.

No other band sounded like Pilot. Those hooks, the fluid playing and one of the best voices in rock, Pilot was a gem and these songs are as timeless as time itself.

That's "Bring back the fire" from The Arrows "A's B's and Rarities" album. They were the hosts of this weekly TV series. Arrows singer Alan Merrill and guitarist Terry Taylor (now of Bill Wyman's Rhythm Kings band) introduce Pilot in this 1976 clip.

Yeah, the description above has an error. The missing drummer is Stuart Tosh (not Stuart Elliott) who also briefly played with 10cc, among others. I do know that Bill Lyall (keyboards) and Stuart Tosh had left the band by Pilot's last 70s release, Two's a Crowd. Maybe this program is just prior to that and they had already departed...

@edgroove7 Paul Varley (drums) passed away summer of 2008 of pneumonia. Guitarist Jake Hooker retired from playing music professionally in 1977 and is an all around entrepreneur/Jack of all trades in Los Angeles. Lead singer/bass guitarist Alan Merrill went on to record and tour on guitar with the bands Runner, (Rick) Derringer and Meat Loaf and now releases solo albums. Since the Arrows broke up guitarist Terry Taylor has recorded and toured with Bill Wyman's Rhythm Kings band

Fraid not - that's me in the 'slacks (slacks?) & light blue shirt' and Peter Oxendale in the shorts. Billy had left the band by then.
