Late to the party but as an engineer the thoughtful approach has left me referencing this video more than once in my casual play of ITB.

Woah amazing catalogue of all the lore and skills. I'm an ftl player and you definitely did that last part a great service by mentioning the relevant events the came from

Excellent work. Im sure this video took quite a while to edit. Great job.

Thank you very much! I've been adding new clips every day for so long that I've automatically opened DaVinci Resolve again today.

I always knew I liked Gana for some reason. Glad to know someone out there appreciates his great potential.

At first I didn't know how to use him, but Gana has a key role in many advanced tactics, unfortunately RNG plays a bigger role because the Vek may just ignore him

I love your ITB content. I would personally rank Camilla higher. I know it’s personal preference, but I’ve had more perfect games fall through, because a scorpion or leaped popped up on the last spawn and trap my most important mec. I’ve had spiders throw an egg that just ruined a map. I know “always useful” doesn’t technically apply to every combination of veks, but she’s always useful throughout a run. The addition of mosquitos raises her value even more. I’d give her an S rank, but I know some would disagree.

Interesting point, the "most important mech". I have tried to test the pilots and work out how often they were useful but of course the sample size is limited and I focused more on the ones at the top. Maybe I've been unlucky with Camila or there are more squads where she's great, my thinking was that the strongest mech in each squad is often a ranged, a prime stuck in a web wasn't such a big deal in my testing, though I will talk more next time about Moths, Leapers and Scorpions, with the weaker squads I found it very unlikely to get a perfect 40K run with too many webbing Vek or Moths, so I'm not sure how much Camila would help in those situation. My take is that another pilot is necessary in most squads to maximize the chance, but I haven't calculated the odds since abandoning the timeline at the beginning is so fast, not that I like giving up before even starting but that's the most efficient way unfortunately.

Camilla is the most useful imo. Being immune to web AND smoke is pretty OP

Great video!! You've earned my sub :) If I may ask, where are you from? I thought your accent sounded interesting because at times you put emphasis at the end of words instead of the beginning or middle which is more common in the US.

Interesting, I listened to everything multiple times and rerecorded all the mistakes I could find (maybe that made the flow worse), but if I had not heard a word enough times I probably don't realize I'm saying it wrong, especially when it's similar to an Italian one, my first language.

Do you think the game would feel better as a roguelike if we can't start a new run with a maxed pilot? It feels annoying to tediously reroll the perfectly skilled pilot or edit the file because otherwise we would be below what the game allows. Btw if it was +5 DEF instead, that skill wouldn't be too bad.

Yes, at least on Unfair, but the first island is balanced for a fully upgraded pilot or maybe I should say it's balanced to get the grid damaged, so the easier solution would be to remove the scoring system, with the grid resist as the helpful RNG component. I tried to stress every time that it's the perfect 40K challenge that shows the game's problems, but I should've said also that 99% of tactics games cannot even afford to have that, they would fall apart long before an "unfair difficulty". In the end it was impossible to balance the skills (and weapons) at any difficulty, but with a different scoring system it wouldn't be "unfair", for example there could be some points for every side objective (old ones or doing new side challenges like one mission with unupgraded weapons) and then extra ones for starting with a 0xp pilot would fit quite well and give you the "max possible score" regardless of how many hits the buildings take.

@@leophd I'm not into getting the highest score, but bonus scores like that is a great idea to incentivize people do more than just protect the grid.
@leophd Жыл бұрын
@@logixindie Then you can try starting with a (random?) 0xp pilot any time you want an extra challenge, though the harder the challenge the more patience you'll need with the RNG. This could be fixed by letting us choose the pilot after looking at the islands, which would work perfectly with your initial suggestion ;)
