These (the disposable versions) used to be my favourite drawing pens as a kid in the 90s. I got some Rotring pens when I was 18 and used those for a few years, but eventually went back to the Pilot V5.

I used to use these all the time when I was a kid too! Way cheaper and longer lasting than Pigma Microns. The fact that they sell one that takes Pilot cartridges/converters is such a bonus! Still works just fine after all these years!

it's funny that I actually am using this V5 pen lately more than my fountain pens for writing notes! It feels more convenient somehow. I really like this pen and the fact that I can fill it with whatever ink I like in its pilot cartridge. Unfortunately, the tip will not be as durable as a fountain pen nib. With my previous V5, after 4 or 5 times of refilling, I can see the point was a little bent sideway. Enjoyed watching this video, and hope your new store is doing really well!

Thanks for the tip (no pun intended). I haven’t had this pen for long enough for this to happen, but I know it happened to my microns when I used to use them I. High school. I have a set of Rotring technical pens I inherited from my dad that have been around since the 80s… they don’t make them like they used to!

I used to draw with those V5 (the disposable ones) when I was in high School (1986) back then Microns weren't available in my area. Never seen the refillable type so I'll definitely be looking for those since I'm also trying to stay away from plastic disposable pens. Great review 😃👍🏽

I really like all your drawings. So much personality and narrative. Do most fountain pen inks work with this pen? I don’t really know anything about refillable rollerball pens like if some inks don’t work well with their design. Thanks!
@stepheninks3 жыл бұрын
I have only had experience using Pilot ink, since the cartridge hasn’t run out yet. I would say that you probably wouldn’t want to use ink with a shimmering agent, because the particles might clog. Other than that, it seems like they could take most fountain pens with little worry.

Try using the non refillable version of it and try to refill it with other inks, (and why tf this is not waterproof and airplane proof and does not have triangular grip then this would be perfect)
@stepheninks5 ай бұрын
I don’t know if that would work but it sounds like a great idea. Have you ever refilled one of them? I’m guessing Pilot could make a deluxe version of this pen that would do all those things… but then I would just want it to be a fountain pen. I feel like this thing is reeeallly good for its price. I think I prefer round grips, to be honest.

Believe it or not, there is a simple and easy trick, where you can create a perfect circle wtih your hands, without using anything else and the circle comes out as precise as if it was made witha compass. You just use your nuckle,pinch the pen with your fingers and turn the paper ,without moving the pen. I didn't expect it to work, but I made 2 perfect circles, the first time I tried it! I made the second, just because I couldn't believe in my own eyes!! My jaw droped and I remember I said, "Who needs a compass??" and l;aughed loud! PS You don't call the best pen in the world "cheap" The common disposable Pilot V5 , pwerforms as good, if not better, to any pen I've ever used. Relible and the msot crazy thing abiout them, is the precision and control you get out of them, because they are lightweight and control at that level, usually comes from much havier and well balanced pens! PS2, I understand why you called it cheap,no hurt feelings! I just wanted to mention these facts, because I'm a huge fun of this pen and the one I 've used the most in my life!
@stepheninks8 ай бұрын
Sorry for the offense. When I say “cheap,” I merely mean inexpensive. This is a fantastic pen, and you’ll get no argument from me about that! I’ve never tried that trick, but it makes sense. Thanks for the tip!

I imagine this would be a pen you'd stick to using the same color ink in since there's no real way to flush it out or clean it like a fountain pen for color change?
@stepheninks3 жыл бұрын
Maybe, but you might be surprised. I haven’t changed the ink on this pen yet, but my other rollerballs (I have 3) have been changed, and they cleaned out surprisingly well. I’ll bet if you filled the cartridge with waste water and scribbled until it ran clean, that would probably do it. I want to try it as soon ya the ink runs out in my pen.

Is the ink in this pen dye based or pigment based ?
@stepheninks2 жыл бұрын
I’m going to say dye based because it’s basically a pilot black ink cartridge, and it isn’t waterproof. I haven’t done this yet, but I am assuming you could get a pilot converter and add a fountain pen friendly pigment based ink (like Platinum Carbon Black) if you wanted to.
