For all those learning to fly - this is not a recommended pattern entry based on published ACs. Overfly & cross the field at +500 ft to pattern, turn left, and teardrop to 45 to downwind. Alternatively - join downwind, although your visibility will be blocked when you make that right turn.

In this airport I do not know but the airport I have flown I pass over the field at 1000 feet checked the windsac to know what side of runway I need to land then join the left or right downwind.

I started a trial yesterday and flew this flight today in MFS off the network just to practice. Unfortunately for me, there was a big tree right in front of the runway threshold for 10 and I had to make a very high approach in here which bothered me. I rewatched this video and see it is clear for you. Hmmmm. My trees are set to high. Anyway nice flight. Appreciate the video.

Microsoft Flight Simulator for the win… -_- But welcome to the network!

Same problem! I just did a practice offline and both sides of the runway have huge trees. Had to make like a 6 degree approach and I ended up touching down so far down the runway I barely stopped before the other end by like a foot lol. I imagined screaming passengers behind me the whole time. Was juicy.

Question: If the VFR chart says 11RP for Oeano (which means the standard pattern is to make a right base to land into runway 11), shouldn't we take off making a 45 degree turn to the right, therefore avoiding all traffic instead of the turn to the left depicted in the video headed into oncoming traffic? The AIM says: "If departing the traffic pattern, continue straight out, or exit with a 45 degree turn (to the left when in a left-hand traffic pattern; to the right when in a right-hand traffic pattern) beyond the departure end of the runway, after reaching pattern altitude." Am I missing something? Thanks!

8:57 Does the ELT function work in MSFS? I know there’s an on and off switch in the C172.

So it looks like MSFS has the New Cuyama runway as 10-28, but looking on ForeFlight it’s listed as 11-29. Which do we use for the cat 1 rating?
@pilotedgeATC Жыл бұрын
It really won’t matter as it’s a non-towered airport. It’s the same strip of asphalt.

With being able to view PE traffic with the VFR map, will pilots using the G1000 like in this video be able to see traffic on the GPS?

Just got done flying this, and I had traffic showing up in the G1000 of the C172.

Love you guys! I promote PE at all the airshows I go to. As far as youtube videos go: Excellent narration. Well done! I consider Keith and PE as professionals, so here ya go with a little constructive criticism......because these are aviation "study" reIated videos, even though the focus is on ATC comms, you still should use steam gauges. Newbies as well as RW pilots like to follow along. It is near impossible to follow along on G1000. I have even tried it on large TV and it is very blurry. Why even show the flight deck if you can't see it? Also, this level of training should be using 152 or 172 "study" aircraft. If you are worried about flight times and video length, just edit it out. FS2020 has a decent analog stock 172sp in the 1st upgrade edition. VFR Pilotage and Dead Reckoning should work excellent in FS2020. If you can stand the sss tutters. All that gorgeous scenery has come at a performance cost I am afraid. I have heard that you can turn off tooltips if you re-install FS2020, otherwise I don't think it is possible to get them out of the way when dialing freq. I have not tried it yet. Such a painful install. Might wait for fix upgrade. Be sure to let FS2020 know you are from PE if you report it as bug. Good luck

Thanks for the feedback, David. Check out our CAT-3 where we used the steam C172 in FS2020. Unfortunately, Microsoft did not include a steam Baron and we wanted something with some speed for the purpose of shortening the videos as much as possible. Additionally, these videos are only for the purpose of airspace and communications training. The VOR and GPS navigation that you see in several of the flights is just a bit of a bonus, but doesn't really play into the ratings; the same goes for the operation of the G1000.

@@pilotedgeATC yes... downplaying nav and highlighting comms. No problem. Keith Smith is a great pilot. A little spoiled. Hope he does some vids as well. Still prefer analog for youtube tho. Can't believe Asobo sent out fs2020 with no way to turn off tooltips. Lol good luck

Please refer to the setup video for MSFS. You should not use any other traffic application.

Why not fly the Cessna 172 or 162? Since this is the aircraft almost every student trains on?
@pilotedgeATC2 жыл бұрын
The rating isn’t about the airplane. Whether you fly it in a 737 or a C172, the communication and airspace principles don’t change.

On your approach call to L88, you say: "... turning a two-mile right base runway one zero... ." What does the two-mile reference mean? I am assuming a distance, but from what?
@pilotedgeATC3 жыл бұрын
It can be seen as one of two things. It can either be turning base for a 2 mile final, or it can be 2 miles from the final on the base leg. It’s a bit ambiguous, but it gets the overall point across that we’re somewhere out on the left base to where other traffic should be able to determine if we are a factor.

What ever happened to 122.2 FlightWatch in the US? In Canada, when we are outside controlled airspace or an airport frequency we monitor and communicate on 126.70 if no other frequency is published. It feels weird to fly around and not be on a designated frequency beyond guard. It seems 121.50 in the US is much like that, less the position reporting.
@coma137943 жыл бұрын
FlightWatch was retired many years ago. All that remains is Flight Service. That said, even when it existed, Flight Watch was not used for pilots to coordinate with other pilots. Some high-density practice areas have published approach frequencies, but beyond that, it's Big Sky theory and "you should probably have flight following if you're on a cross country anyway" theory :)

There’s nothing stopping you from a legal perspective, however the AIM recommends entering the pattern on the 45 degree angle into the downwind.
