:-O I'm a 400-odd hour private pilot with instrument rating and own a Mooney. I'd never heard the thing at 6:00 that class-D towers won't call you when you're leaving their airspace, and you don't need to call them. I've never heard that, ever. I learned something today, thanks!

With your point about switching to Ground to Tower being the only time pilots can switch on their own, will Ground ever instruct you to stay with them before you go to Tower? I wondered if that would happen on the event that Ground and Tower were working to coordinate taxiway or runway crossings with other aircraft. In the r/w, I’ve seen Ground Controllers say, “Cessna 1AB runway 19R taxi via F, M, E, T, R, stay with me.” and tell you to contact Tower when you’re holding short.

Question: Nerves speaking on Pilotedge get me all the time.... Can you practice on PE (your radio work) without having to take a qualification test?

My understanding is yes all these CAT/I ratings are self advancement, they are not required. Or at least I've seen nothing that says they are.

This is so great guys! I can't tell you how happy I am! Quick question on this one.. when he was coming in closer to the destination airport, to enter the downwind leg.. I noticed that the altitude was a bit high (2000' ish) Does it matter what alt. you come in at to enter the pattern? Or, off camera did he check the chart for that airport and already know what the pattern alt. is, etc? Just wondering so when I practice I can get it right. It looks like the TPA for that airfield is 1261' ( I saw somewhere, that you want to be at TPA about 2nm from the airport, so you can see traffic vs. still descending etc.).
@pilotedgeATC4 жыл бұрын
Travis Harris Photography yes, you want to shoot to enter the downwind at TPA

I'm curious why you said that you expected right downwind rather than something else.
@pilotedgeATC Жыл бұрын
Because the pilot was approaching from that side of the airport

I'm confused (OK that goes without saying), KSMX has only runways 12 and 02 listed as right pattern (RP 2, 12) on the sectional. However you expected (and got!) a right downwind to runway 30.
@pilotedgeATC4 жыл бұрын
Not quite, look again at how many runways SMX has. Regarding the assigned runway, the airport has a control tower so we’ll always follow tower’s instructions. The RP 2,12 is for when the tower isn’t there.

@@pilotedgeATC Gotcha - tower gave you the most direct route to final. If you were coming from the west you would have got a left downwind I suppose? Thank you for the awesome tutorials - got my CAT-1 today!
@pilotedgeATC4 жыл бұрын
virtual Don It’s not necessarily about the most direct route to final. It’s about what works best at that time based on traffic flows. That may or may not be the most direct path, but the tower’s instructions override any sort of standard traffic pattern direction that you might see on a chart.
