Talking to ATC is more nerve wracking than public speaking as you have to safely fly the plane too. Great intro to PE.

@@pilotedgeATCDo you know of any free websites where you can just practice typing requests and responses to an AI to better improve what you need to say and when? PilotEdge seems awesome and I plan on getting it, but before even getting on sims, I would like to learn procedures.

Hopefully not a dumb question but as a Canadian, are radio communications the same or at least very similar between Canada and US ?
@pilotedgeATC
@pilotedgeATC 3 жыл бұрын
There are some differences, but the overall principles are the same. You can still overcome mic fright using our procedures and training, then easily alter the minor things in the real airplane. We have plenty of international users who haven't allowed the minor differences to keep them away from valuable at-home practice.

@@pilotedgeATC Thank you because my nerves get to me when I am talking and I trip over my 2 left feet just trying to talk to someone on PE just like I do in training. But I seem to trip more on PE than with my instructor. I want to practice more so I am more comfortable and nail my PE ratings best I can.

Here is a statement from Laminar regarding the new M1 macbooks with regards to plugin compatibility. The short answer is 'yes, it will work'. In the future, it will work even more efficiently for plugins that require optimal performance, however, it will require a new build of the plugins: developer.x-plane.com/2020/11/arm-macs/

Very nice for flying in the US but useless anywhere else in the world. US phraseology is totally different from ICAO which is widely used basically anywhere else.
@pilotedgeATC
@pilotedgeATC 3 жыл бұрын
“Totally different?” Certainly not. We have members from all over the globe. While there are some differences in phraseology, our service still allows users to overcome “mic fright” by talking to real people on the radios while using their flight simulator. This offers a far more useful option than the alternative of simply flying on the simulator alone with zero accountability.

We’re glad you asked! Our controllers are paid, professional, controllers, who work on a schedule so pilots have our controllers available to them 15 hours per day, 7 days a week. But if quality and service isn’t enough for you, our radio system, procedures and complex refresh rates will surely give you a fantastic training experience. And that’s not all…have a look: www.pilotedge.net/pages/comparison-to-other-networks

For those who happen to live on the USA west coast, this could be a great tool since this is the area and ONLY area of coverage provided by Pilot Edge. I live on the east coast so the west coast locations provided are at best only fictional to me and do not have the same connection with reality for me as it would for someone who actually lives or is training there. While I consider the price for this service to be more than reasonable, it is less reasonable for me to pay the same price as those who receive this service in surroundings that are familiar to them. If Pilot Edge ever gets around to providing the same service on the east coast, I'll be the first to sign up!!! ...but I suspect that I will have already learned what I need to by that time. Sorry Charlie!!! 🤨
@coma13794
@coma13794 2 жыл бұрын
I live on the east coast, too. I would argue that if you can fly in a unfamiliar area with confidence and proficiency, then you can fly in an familiar one just fine. The reverse is not necessarily true. Is it more fun or to fly in your local area? Maybe. The reality is that from a training value perspective, it really shouldn't matter. While I live in NJ, I've had to fly to TX, FL, MI, CA and countless other states, many times. I can say with a great degree of confidence that outside of local SFRAs, the procedures really don't vary by much. Airpsace is either busy or it isn't. Airports are towered, or they're not. Approaches are either precision, non-precision, RNAV vs conventional. What state you're in just doesn't matter a whole lot. Many people start out thinking that flying in a new area won't be for them...most later admit that it ends up mattering way less than they thought. I totally get the desire to fly locally....it crosses my mind from time to time (I haven't flown locally in my sim for nearly 10 years now as a result of my association with PilotEdge). While I agree with you in terms of entertainment or fun, I disagree that you have to fly locally in the sim for the training to be relevant. So, ultimately, it comes down to whether you want to fly locally without the service, or in a different area with the scheduled coverage. The decision will vary from person to person, but the notion that it's irrelevant to fly in remote airspace makes little sense to me, and I've been walking the talk for many years now.
