Jordanian 36C It is poor airmanship, poor energy management, inconsiderate of passengers and a waste of fuel to PLAN to use speedbrakes during an approach when you know you are going to hold....in fact for any approach. On landing after a super heavy with a crosswind the Captain immediately released the control column and the activated reverse thrust lever and started fiddling IN the cockpit with some irrelevant knob at high ground speed! !!! Not the way to do it..

@@pben4431 Speedbrake usage during the descent was necessary in order to hit the holding point at the correct altitude and airspeed. A 787 wing has a great deal of lift and it's rare not to require the speedbrake at some point during the descent. Energy management is not always entirely within the crew's control especially when going into busier airports.

I know enough about flying small aircraft to say to everyone here that the Captain has to be very good to make that landing look so easy - on the stick, on the pedals all the way in and 50ft over the piano - well done Sir! Quite amazing how one's life turns out - now over 70 I can look down on that big field seen in the final approach and remember working in it with a heavy horse when it was a farm. Back then Heathrow airport had tents for arrivals and departures and if you had the princely sum of five shillings - a guy in a Dragon Rapide would give you a quick flip from the central area.

At what point should the pilot switch off AP and start flying manualy. He released the controls immediately after touchdown before the aircraft slowed. At this point I believe ailerons are still active. He should hold on the controls untill the breaking is complete.

I must have flown in to Heathrow at least 200 times in my life and I never tire of the view. If you park up near the perimiter and look up, you can see the lights of the incoming planes, lined up one behind each other in the sky, all at different stages of their descent. On a busy morning they are no more than one minute's flying time behind each other. It's an incredible sight and I take my hat off to ATC - they do an amzing job keeping all this in order. The skies above London are usually filled with planes. Until COVID-19 came along, of course. Now I look up and the skies are practically empty - only the occasional overflying flight at 30,000 feet.

It really isn't bad at all. Once you know the lingo, the radios are quite simple. And every approach and landing is essentially the same so you know what ATC is going to say before they say it. These guys have done it many many many times. It's like walking. -737 pilot

imagine the confusion as passengers seeing the speedbrakes going up and down continuously just because the captain is explaining it to the film crew XD. Very awesome video and I love the 787 flightdeck and that Singapore a380 is amazing. edit: I see some people didn't get it. Pilots do extend speedbrakes to aid in descent. This is not a rare occasion. I was just pointing out as the captain wanted to show to the person filming how you can see it on the display by moving it up and down continuously. That's why as a passenger pov it must be funny. And I over exaggerated as this was a joke. Calm down folks.

It's amazing to watch and listen .. these aviators appear so cool and collected during what seems the highest stress point, the last thousand feet before the landing. The automated voices calls out the altitude, and the pilot replies "Continue." as if to say, yep, I really do mean to point the airplane at the ground. It's gonna be OK. What beautiful pictures, how skilled are these pilots , incredible.....So why on earth so many thumbs down 👎, what did I miss ?..To me it was a stunning little video with incredible scenes of what it must be like flying..I’ve never been in an airliner, but how wonderful it must be to be in the cockpit.
