I took the test on 4-15-2021 and it was brutal. I have studied for 3 weeks and most of the questions on the test I had never seen befoer. I passed the test but here is a tip for those folks going to take the tese. Once you go through all 60 questions -- then go back and go through the questions again. The 2nd time will be much faster as you will be able to breeze through the questions you were sure of and can read again the questions you had doubts about. Some questions may jog your memory to help answer other questions. GOOD LUCK!!!

One was a bit tricky stating that when in Class D, the airport tower is not manned, does the space remain Class D. I said yes, but I believe I was wrong. The other options said something like it is either Class E or G and another option that I cant recall. Anyway, thanks again for the tutorial videos, great job!

I've only flown in Class G air space so far. And I need to do some aerial pix and a video of a residential real estate property that is in Class D. When I check the Air Space at that location (on Aloft), I get this ... when I try to get LAANC authorization: The airspace color is Red and not Blue (it is under control of Naval Air Station Jax, with the airport ID of KNIP). Although the map shows that I should be able to fly up to 150 feet, I first get a: "LAANC is not available for operations outside" just above where I select an altitude that I want to fly. Then after I select when I want to fly, etc., I get (under Step 3 of 4) "Pre-Check Failed" highlighted in Red, and at the bottom of this info page it says: "LAANC is inactive for the planned operation area. ,,, and that's as far as it goes, except an option to 'edit flight details.' Changing the altitude, time of day or night, or the month makes no difference. Suggestions on what's the problem? Thanks Chuck (N.E. Florida)

Greg - I've done no night flying with a drone or plane; however, I've done 5 night time parachute jumps at night and what I notice was the different shades of darkness; the two jumps over a jungle I could tell the difference between the dense jungle; open clearing; and river. When walk out in the country side, these difference shades of darkness come into play. Question: When flying your drone at night; are these difference shades of darkness visible on your controller screen?
@PilotInstitute4 жыл бұрын
The only way they might is if you push the ISO very high but it might get noisy on the screen. It also depends on how large the moon is. In a full moon scenario (and no clouds), you will definitely be able to discern those shades.

Not really. Aircraft need to land eventually so airports are out. Helicopters and cropdusters have to operate below 400 feet regularly so that doesn't work either.

@@PilotInstitute so why not place flight restrictions on the runways. Would a pilot be coming in for landing below 400’ away from airport. I get crop dusters and helicopters
@chuckstallions92673 жыл бұрын
I guess what I’m trying to say is if a manned aircraft came in contact with a uas outside controlled airspace either two things have happened. One uas pilot was above 400’ or manned aircraft was coming in for crash landing. As far as crop dusters I get it they fly above crops to dust fields and helicopters fly on power lines to change out spacers and service.

@@chuckstallions9267 The only airspace restrictions for drones at the moment is around airports. Everywhere (mostly) else you can fly up to 400 feet without prior approval. If the strobe is required so other aircraft can see the UAS and not so that the remote pilot can maintain VLOS, the FAA is conceding that visual line of sight is not required at night? If that's the case, this seems to undercut the FAA's entire basis for requiring VLOS during the day, no?
