there is an online class that a lot of people take that costs $150, and the test itself is $150. so if you took the other class, and failed, then about 300 bucks. either way this video was amazing and has me passing the practice tests and given me the confidence in taking the real one. priceless really.

Just like all of the other comments, I just finished taking my Part 107 test this morning and came out with a 97% after using pretty much only this video as my study guide. I looked up like two practice tests, but this video and it's companion study guide were pretty much my sole resources. It still holds up FIVE years after publishing! I watched it through three times total over the course of a week and the test felt just fine. The trickiest part for me were two questions about remote ID, which makes sense because those rules have only just come out. Also, I agree with a few of the other comments, I'd say about 1/3 to 1/2 of my test was sectional chart based, so for all you aspirants, be sure you study that well. Like Tony says, everything can be found in the Legend. TLDR; There's really no need to waste your money on a paid course when the high majority of everything you'll need is right here in this video. :) Thank you guys for creating this awesome resource for all of us new drone pilots!!

@SirYohan
@SirYohan 2 жыл бұрын
@NV Pharaoh in my test, I was given an airman handbook that consisted of ~80 pages of charts and various visual aids referenced during the test. In the front cover, it had a legend just like is shown in this video. I recommend looking over that book prior to clicking start so that you can familiarize yourself with it without burning any test time.

Hey, please read this if you plan on taking your Part 107 exam soon!: I passed my part 107 exam last week with a 95 and I was somewhat surprised by this score because most of the questions covered by these review videos were not on my test. I got a lot of questions pertaining to flying at night, flying over people, hazardous behaviors, and sectional charts. Some other questions were on Density altitude, fog and weather formations, and differentiating air apressure based on altitude. I even had a question on a section of Part 48, which I had no idea how to answer. With all that said, I did not pay for any courses, but watch this video and a number of other videos on KZbin, but take this seriously! It is actually tricky. Study sectional charts, weather reports, remote Id, regulations for flying at night! Understand air pressure at sea level, calculating cloud ceilings. Take practice tests. Kings School has free practice tests ! Hope this helps. Let me know if you have specific questions

Great overview in this video and THANK YOU Tony for the video :) I watched this video 2-3x, watched Gary Glenn video 2-3x, **read FAA study guide 2-3x, and watched any and all videos on youtube of sectional charts - huge shout out to FLY8MA for their KZbin videos. @@frankromero4859 Did you pass?
@frankromero4859
@frankromero4859 4 жыл бұрын
@@silasapple1530 I passed with a 92%. I missed 4 questions and unfortunately FAA and PSI doesn't tell you the questions you missed but they do tell you the category. I found out that mostly all the questions in the exam were not exactly worded the same as the practice questions, so I wouldn't advice anyone to memorize questions and answers. The key is to study study study all the categories and concentrate on the categories that you struggle the most. For example, I struggled with weather so I studied and watched lots of KZbin videos pertaining to that. Anyone that says that they only watched this video of Tony Northrup (which I think is a great video) and passed with flying colors, I can't perceive to understand how they did it, because the questions were hard IMO. I would advice you to look up lots of KZbin videos and read the study guide of the FAA. Once you see many videos it will start to sink in. Lastly, I recommend that you bookmark the questions that you are unsure of and review them 2 or 3x more before finishing the test. I used up 1.5hrs but when I doubled checked the bookmarked questions, which I had 9, I made some changes and then felt more comfortable. DO NOT take the test lightly and think it is easy. Some questions are confusing. Let me know how it goes for you or if you have a questions about certain topics. I did find this entire process interesting and I feel I have gained knowledge and respect for our air men. Tip: CT frequency and CTAF will be same frequency. I googled it and learned that when CT is not in opertion, that same CT frequency simply becomes CTAF frequency. If there isn't any CT or CTAF frequency, then you will communicate through MULTICOM 122.9 or 122.95 See I told you I learned :)

FAA regs change a little over time, so this video is outdated on a few topics (as you might expect since it's a 6 yr old video now), but will give you the vast majority of what you need to know to pass the test. Just passed my part 107 with a 90% today! As an FYI, I watched this video, and Altitude University's " FAA Part 107 Study Guide: Drone Certification - Pass First Try!" and took a practice exam I found online. By far the easiest exam I've ever taken. Total studying including practice exam, watching the videos in 2 times speed ~ roughly 4 hrs the night before the exam. The only thing I would have done differently would be to look up recent changes with remote ID as that wasn't really covered in either 2 videos. Don't stress on this exam, like 75% of the questions were extremely straightforward. I spent a total of 35 minutes on the exam, trust your gut and watch how they give you the answer (it's often very easy to eliminate the wrong choice and there were times when just by the answer you already know the correct one). The sectional chart was probably the hardest part of the exam but luckily they do give you the book/legends so use that to your advantage and you can always come back to them if they're taking too much time :D. Best of luck everyone!

Passed this test today with an 83. This info is a bit outdated, but a lot of it still there. There is also a lot that is not on this video, or the Better B Roll video. Tons of sectional chart stuff. Like everything you could imagine on a sectional. Towers, flyways, frequencies, everything. Plus a lot of basic info that you would remember if you heard it once, but probably wouldn't know until you heard it. I'd recommend on watching a lot of videos just on reading sectional charts.

Thank you! Most of the questions were off of the pilot maps, but the manual they give you has everything you need at the front of the book. In terms of how hard this test is, I would give it a 7.5/10. There are probably around 8 questions that were not covered in this video because it is older.

Took my test today and passed with a 82. I studied really hard the past 2 days but the whole process of really focusing on learning the material started about a week ago. I am normally a really bad test taker but I was able to pass, if I can do it so can you trust me! Watch this entire video and use any practice tests you can find including the one in the description. Really pay attention to the questions that you fail and take note of the areas that are harder and focus on those. I was extremely anxious the past 2 days leading up to the test but its all worth it once you pass, don't let the charts freak you out as well. They are a lot easier than they seem at the beginning for me that was the easiest part of the test. Good Luck!

Just a word about Charts. Think of charts as raw data. There are tons of info in them. However, unlike maps, you don't typically just open them up, find where you are and then proceed from that point. In the Navy we would prepare charts far in advance. You use chart tape to highlight information specific to your route. Each box is a section of space and it's important to know what to expect, and what rules to follow in that space. The tape is removed once the trip is over. Granted we used nautical charts, but the concept looks to be extremely similar. Just like any other language, it can be complicated, but you get used to it. Thank you so much for this video. Super helpful and better than anything else I have found so far.

Excellent video. I will add that the exam I took today was heavy (60%) on charts and reports. While this video was extremely helpful and well-produced, my advice is to study the charts and reports over everything else. I've been flying drones for over 10 years, 2,000 hours and 98% of the content doesn't pertain to flying a drone and I've owned everything from a Mavic Mini to an Inspire 2. I'm glad the exam is over and I passed. BTW cost in 2022 is $175 not $150.

I took and passed the part 107 test in october 2024 using mostly this video as a study guide. There are some updates since he made the video but 95% of the information is still pertinent. If i were to take the test again, i would use this video but also do additional research on radio frequency usage and air classification. I stumbled on several questions that, once you found the location on the chart, you had to decipher what airspace classifications applied to the location at different elevations as well as what radio frequencies to monitor for things like the control tower being down, etc. All in all, this was a VERY GOOD study guide video!

I passed the test yesterday basically doing two things. 1. Watched this video 3 times and took a lot of notes as well as really cramming on Tony's study guide page: northrup.photo/free-faa-part-107-suas-drone-certification-study-guide/. 2. I did all 120 questions in the practice exam multiple times. Can't stress that enough. The practice exam is almost exactly like the real exam. You really need to take the practice exam until you pass it. A few more pieces of advice: Know the chart stuff. On my exam there were a lot of difficult chart questions. Know the TAF codes, what they mean. Also know the distinctions between the different types of bad attitudes drone pilots can adopt. Also aircraft loading factors. Know this stuff, and you'll do fine.

I've been binge watching your vids recently. I've been getting into photography (again) and your content is always fun, insightful and entertaining. My channel involves a lot of high performance hobby drone stuff. I'm also a Certified Flight Instructor, multiengine commercial pilot, and part 107 certified. Just wanna say I love your attitude and approach to this subject. Your view on the nonsense knowledge required as being a glimpse into the larger historic aviation world is very good. The FAA is treating these (what some people think of as toys) as real serious commercial aircraft operated by certified competent airmen.
@andrey30008
@andrey30008 7 жыл бұрын
Hi, So i am curious, I am a commercial pilot and looking to add this drone certificate. Since you are a CFI, can i add this certificate just by applying on IACRA and having someone sign off on it? I think it would be great if RPO could just call up the tower on frequency and report your position or require a permission to enter the airspace just like regular airplanes.
@SammSheperd
@SammSheperd 7 жыл бұрын
Hi, for someone like yourself with a part 61 certificate and a current flight review the process is really easy and you can do it for free and in a few hours online. Take the FAA's online course on Part 107, take the free online test at the end, and then fill out an IACRA just like with any other application for a certificate. You do need to get in touch with a CFI just for them to check your drivers license and confirm your ID. The CFI will log onto IACRA and sign you off. You'll get a temporary certificate to print off and you'll get a real sUAS Remote Pilot certificate in the mail like 3 months later.. If you really want, you can also go take the $150 CATS test and then do IACRA, but idk why you'd do that.

Don't bother trying to memorize online sample test questions. You need to learn why and how regulations are the way they are and how they apply to various scenarios. Out of 60 questions on the test only about 20% were covered in those videos and study guides. The test I took was made up of questions you could answer only by studying weather systems, METAR reports, sectional charts, airspace, and various regulations covering drones and some common sense.

I passed the Part 107 exam today with a 98, and this video was a very good start. I also had a test prep app for iPad that was also a big help. This video got me to where I was better than 70% and ready to fill in holes. There is a big "HOWEVER." There are other aspects of each topic I had to be ready for that are not in the video, nor should you expect that this covers it all. This video directly covered concepts, and you need to get the application down by forcing yourself to not just get grooved for certain questions. For example: There is a lot more to cloud types beyond nimbus. Study the hell out of the sectionals in the test supplement. Get fluent and solid with the local latitude and longitude lines. Look for examples where tower tops might be in controlled airspace. Study where you can find each floor and top to class B airspace in the charts. Be able to measure distance from an airport with dividers or a ruler so you know whether a job is inside or outside controlled airspace. Spend extra time drilling on questions that test the subtle differences in CRM vs ADM. Thanks for the video, it will help a lot of people get started.

I took my test today. Aug 30th 2023, The questions on my test only represented about a 3rd of the material covered in this video. Regulations have been updated. You need to study Classification of each drone type 1-4, when you can fly over people, night time operation and require devices for night operation, what actually causes the weather patterns. A big surprise on my test was how many questions I had regarding the operation of a drone at the top of a tower and what airspace the drone will be flown in if at max distance on top of a tower. This video is great for the basics, but it will not teach you everything on the test. the "Midfield left downwind" questions weren't present. Instead I was asked about the different classifications of drones about 10 times.

Just passed my part 107 today with an 87%, I used this video and the one by Altitude University, as well as various practice tests. These videos give you a great understanding of the basics, however you will probably still need to do some studying on your own when it comes to newer material like night operations, flying over people, and something that I saw today which was remote ID!! The video by Pilot Institute explaining remote ID is a great supplement. And finally the best practice test I can recommend is the one by King Schools, there's also the official faa practice test(which is slightly outdated), and the one mentioned in the study guide in the description of this video. Good luck to those studying, and don't memorize the practice test questions because they were all re-worded for the test

I just passed today with an 87% and only watched this video once, along with some practice tests explanations and Sectional Charts videos on KZbin. This video barely scratches the surface honestly. You definitely need to do more research if you want to pass. I’m glad I watched the extra videos I found on KZbin. Make sure you know how to read sectional charts and TAF/METAR codes as there were tons of questions on them, most of which weren’t even covered in this video. Feel free to ask me any questions and I’ll get back to you. Good luck!

I took this test today and passed with an 80%. There were some questions that weren't covered in this video, but more than enough to pass. Thanks so much! I also did not purchase any paid app or anything, completely free studying.

I did not pass my first attempt and this video and test questions are greatly appreciated. I am using Remotepilot 101 and they keep updating the info as more people report back to them concerning some of the questions. One question that was reported is "How long does it take for one mixed drink to exit your system?" I thought the obvious answer was 8 hrs, but the answer is 3 hrs. A good example of how confusing this test can be at least for me. Thanks for this video Tony.

I have a Remote Pilot Prepware app that supposedly has every possible question that could be on the test, and the only one I've seen similar to this was: "A person may not act as a crewmember of a sUAS if alcoholic beverages have been consumed by that person within the preceding..." - a. 8 hours - b. 12 hours c. 24 hours I'm planning on taking the test very soon, so I'll report back if there was any questions that weren't in my app.

That was on your actual 107 test? I've never come across that question. It's either the 8 hour thing or I had a question like "Pilots use the 12 hours bottle to throttle" rule.

You should report that question because it is, in fact, inaccurate. Different people metabolize alcohol at different rates. There is no way to put a definitive time on the rate for one drink to exit your system. Not everyone's liver is the same, "On average, the liver can metabolize 1 ounce of alcohol every hour. The average person’s blood alcohol level from a single ounce of alcohol will rise to 0.015, so about every hour, that much alcohol will pass out of a person’s body. A blood alcohol level of 0.08, the legal limit for driving, takes 5.5 hours to leave the system. This process is a bit different when someone starts consuming alcohol faster than the liver can metabolize it" blah, blah... Either the question was reported wrong, which is my guess or the question is misleading and should be reported to the test center or FAA.

If someone already mentioned this I'm sorry, but I didn't read all of the comments. There is an error in the video. Longitude goes north and south and latitude runs east and west. This was a great study guide. Thank you for sharing this guide on KZbin.

I get what you are saying, that latitude "runs east and west", and longitude "runs north and south". But when you actually describe a geographic coordinate in North and East values, you are describing where two points intersect in a coordinate system. Think of a X/Y graph. X is horizontal usually (aka East/West in our example). When you say x=3 on a graph, you can imagine a line going vertically on 3, and any valid Y value you choose will be represented by a horizontal (latidude) line that will intersect it. That X=3 (east/west) is describing the longitude (vertical) line value. Anyway, let me know if that makes sense or not.

I just passed my 107 today with an 87 in very large part to this video! Thanks Tony! I'm subscribed and loving your other videos too. On another note, I hate seeing some people charging upwards of $300 plus to 'help' people pass this test. Completely unnecessary. I know business is business, but some of those prices are flat out absurd. All I used was this video and a couple of Google searches for other free content and I passed no problem.

If anyone is watching as of June 2023. I watched this the morning of my test once without any prior study whatsoever. I scored an 80. There were a few questions that weren’t covered in this video, but obviously it was still relevant and has enough info to pass.

Took my test today (1/12/22) and passed with a 92%. As far as "studying," I watched this video one time about a month ago. I watched a video from RemotePilot101. And I also watched a more recent video yesterday by the youtube channel Katia's Buzz. Her video had updated information that had changed, including the 4 categories of drones to fly over people, the PAVE/IMSAFE acronym, etc. but her video was much more "I just took my test. He is what was on it and what you should remember." This video is much better, even if some of the information is outdated due to the April 2021 changes. I watched this video again today before my test and I understood so much more the second time I watched it. This video helps understand the material, rather than just give you information to memorize. As far as the test went, I was given 2 pencils, scratch paper, and the FAA supplement book (which has a legend and helped a good bit) which is where all of the figures are. I brought my own calculator but I would have been given one if I didn't. I used it for one load factor/bank angle question. I would have been fine if I didn't have the calculator 1) because it was a simple multiplication problem and 2) the test itself has a built-in calculator (I tested at a PSI testing center). I also brought a magnifying glass which I used for a couple of questions but only because I had it. Otherwise, I would have been fine without it. Took me about an hour to complete it, including going through all of my questions a second time to make sure I did not miss anything. That's about all I have to report. Just wanted to give my input after taking the test because other people's input had helped me with my preparation and what to expect.

Just passed this with a 78% and I started studying the night before. I watched your video once and took one practice exam. I took the full 2 hours of exam time, probably because I didn't study that much. But I still passed first try and with just a few hours of studying in large part thanks to this video! My advice to anyone taking it now: interpreting the charts is a large part of the exam, so make sure you spend time on those questions. Also, as others have said there is some new material you need to learn: night flying, Remote ID, and flying over passengers.

I just took and passed my test today. What I can say about this video is if you struggle with numbers or sectional charts this is for sure the video you need to watch. There's a TON of new stuff and I recommend reading up on it find more videos. I think if I solely watched this video I wouldn't have passed because of the newer regulations and some of the newer questions that pop up on the quiz. Definitely study. It's not that easy of a test. Not the hardest test in the world but way more complicated then what you would think.
