I am the KZbinr/Pilot that had a meeting with Senator Markey's office. I am not a political person, but this cause really hits home for me and I felt the need to contact them and get involved. I am glad that I did, because I was able to teach their office things that they were not aware of. I urge everyone to reach out to your local senators office and request a phone call meeting. Don't be afraid to do it. I was nervous but was able to overcome that and have a great discussion. Don't be afraid to stand up and speak up. It's times like this when we need to work together. Thank you Greg and Vic for this discussion. Very informative.

I'm happy that persons like you with knowledge are willing to reach out to them. My main question is, are they not aware that they lied in order to ensure Skydio's place in the market without competition? Shouldn't Stefanik's part in Skydio be conflict of interest and raise red flags? That is what bothers me the most to be honest. It's like anytime a Chinese based company excels this will happen, instead of the American companies putting the work in to compete. Yet, they have no problem having their parts made in China. Apple is a prime example. I would happily support American drone companies if they were creating good products.

@netvisionz The problem is that they sneak language into other bills like the NDAA. Some things get voted on without any knowledge of what's fully in the bill.

Not sure what you guys are talking about not needing the internet to log in. After a few weeks, the Fly app requires me to log in to my account (connect to the internet) in order to fly my Mavic 3 Pro. It does this regularly. How are you guys flying the Mavic 3 Pro without logging in once and a while? Even if we can still fly our current drones after the ban, the Mavic 3 Pro will still be bricked due to this issue

I understand what you're saying. I've been burned no less than 5 times when I arrived on location to fly a DJI drone that wouldn't let me fly more than 40' away unless I logged into the DJI site. I use a tablet that doesn't connect to the Internet (assuming cellular service is even available). The way around this is to start everything up at home (or wherever) using wifi, login, then shut the drone and RC down but leave the tablet on with the display off. Go to your flight location and fly as usual. You can connect a power pack to the tablet if it doesn't have a long lasting battery. I think this login prompt happens after an update if the AC,RC, and app are not all restarted afterward.

@@markkempton4579 No. When I get on location, start everything up starting with the tablet, it will take off but I'm unable to fly more than 40' feet away without logging into the DJI site like I explained before. Since my tablet doesn't have an Internet connection outside of wifi, I'm stuck with using a phone, which I hate, or just calling it a day which is usually what happens. If it's a pre-planned mapping flight that is preloaded onto the tablet, I'm definitely screwed. I have a love/hate relationship with DJI because of this.

Greg, at 16:00 you mention that some "expert" believes DJI drones have the ability to read heart rate. Even if that were true (it's not), why would that represent a greater threat to National Security than every smart watch which already has the ability to share that info via bluetooth to an app on your phone, and from there to God knows where... Could we possible set up events in the same towns as our representatives, for showing them, physically, why we have so much passion? Like you said, you don’t think any one of them have even held or flew one. I would volunteer my time, endlessly! As many do, my entire fleet is DJI, how on earth could I afford to replace any? Flying is the one major thing I wished to do in my retirement. This absolutely feels criminal to me, just because someone bent an untrained ear to some lobbyist, blurting out nothing but a pack of lies, while greedily and secretly, hoping to fill this manufactured void, with their own crappy products! WOW, I guess it’s the American way, these days!!

Yes, but the drone will only work offline for a maximum of 30 days before you have to log back in using the internet and your DJI account.. and once the 30 days is up, the distance and height you can fly is very limited until you do log back in. We often take starlink on remote.shoots to avoid getting stuck with a drone which can only fly 30m away from the pilot. This includes Mavic 3 with rcpro, inspire 3 RC plus etc.

The Chinese government will dance with joy if we take an economic hit over this. In Broward County, Florida, just one police department had to ground a fleet 74 DJI drones. I heard a call over the radio last week “ toddler walked out of the house in the evening, unable to locate, large lake in the neighborhood”. No thermal drone available to quickly find the child. I didn’t get to hear the outcome of this call, but if this child drowned somewhere in the large lake… by the time you find him or her, resuscitative efforts are less likely to be effective. This would be devastating to the family and also all the first responders that have to deal with the scenario.

Autel, when in the game gave DJI a run for the money and actually the Life series kicked DJI's butt before the Air 3 came out. Others can beat DJI if they want, but they would already have to be in the game. Skydio made the X2 which best DJI in some areas, but not in others. Being a DJI fanboy does not make you an expert especially if all you've flown is a DJI. And yet, both Autel and Skydio are no longer in the consumer market.

I still believe this is driven by Skydio their lobbyists, and some well connected uber wealthy people who simply do not like the idea of flying cameras in the hands of anyone who can afford them or can learn to fly them. Not everyone can. It's a spacial and situational awareness thing. I have a friend who is a licensed real plane pilot who just can't visualize the operation of the drone from a location other than in the seat of the aircraft. I don't understand it because I am usually looking at the screen when I fly. That's like looking out the window of a real aircraft to me. There's also the war machine aspect as we've seen in the Ukraine war.

Since you guys know the rules and regulations so well. Would that be something feasible for you guys to do to have your company grow and take the next step towards more products? Don’t get me wrong I love my DJI mini pro 3 and avata gen 1. But if this ban does pass. We need someone to replace this massive market

Unfortunately drone manufacturing is not something we are capable of or really interested in. It will also take millions of dollars of investment to figure out manufacturing and for R&D. Our core competency at the moment is providing awesome aviation education. But we are honored that you would trust us to do this the right way!

I think you missed the issue of RFID, that FAA law opened the gate to the internet. I know the FAA wanted cellular access to every drone but had to setting on WiFi for the time being, they want to grow their kingdom and control, WiFi is a temporary steppingstone, either way it is a means of access to a drone.

DJI and all affected companies should do exactly what TikTok is doing - they just filed an open brief for an unconstitutional ban.

The problem seems to be they think that ccp ballon’s are the same thing as the drones we fly. They think they are the big military drones they don’t realize they are much different than a rc toy. They also don’t understand the data being transferred and the use of that data. They also don’t understand how dji has other tech like microphones and gimbles will be effected.

I will have a direct connection with Ms. S this September. I definitely want to reach out to her about this but I feel this is more of political maneuver than a real concern for security. Thus, I don’t feel she will concede under any circumstance until the elections are over or when the political scene settles. I do plan to purchase some DJI swag. :)

How about you go into a little more detail about "Skydio is behind this nonsense" I'd like to hear it. Considering the fact that Skydio stopped developing consumer drones awhile back it wouldn't make sense to me... but I definitely would like to hear your conspiracy.

Hm... I wonder how many lawmakers will see their bank accounts swell when American Manufacturers flourish in the wake of them snuffing out the competition. I don't generally believe legislation is for the betterment of this country or its citizens. This isn't a threat to National Security, but the wide open border sure is.... the federal government's priorities are WAY off...

When Harley Davidson started losing the 750cc motorcycle market to the Japanese makers in the 1980s, the government stepped in to rescue this American brand…. Why not use that model here? Except that here the Chinese government leans away from the way we do things in the states? What is happening here that no one wants to say?

DJI: publishes applications that do not pass security reviews in stores (DJI Assistance, all of the androiod apps). Self-proclaimed security experts making money off people with DJI drones: we don't get the ban, so unfair.

My fear is that irresponsible drone use will eventually ruin the use of aerial (civilian) drone use. For example in the recent California wildfires one of the planes used for fire fighting water was recently grounded after being struck by an aerial drone. In the past 1.5 yrs I’ve spent well over $1000 on aerial drones and they’re becoming so widespread they’re becoming a public safety issue. And a yrs or so ago I paid $200 for pilot training but I was so sick most of the year I’ve never taken the course. It’s not very difficult to see what could be very likely that the FAA or some other agency will have to step in and find some way to restrict the use of drones.

Welcome to the new reality not only is the government going after drones but anything e driven especially bikes & any other e transport they are going to regulate it & require things like a license & insurance. Just a few days ago there was a city that has cancelled a RC Crawler spot in California so this is just the beginning of a bunch of regulations for any RC user no matter what it is. And anyone with a ebike good luck.

I am a DJI owner and not happy about latest legislation, but not fair to support drones or other industries to overcharge compared to global market rate. I am an automotive engineer and Japan was harsh, Korea more harsh, now China. Unfortunately, our government in the USA has allowed companies to invest too much in China and now it it hard to find a hammer built in the USA.....GRRR!

NO it's Skydio crying because they don't have a majority of the US drone market. They stopped selling a consumer drone last year. All they make now are commercial drones and they want US Defense contracts to line their wallets. They already have a government contract. Don't blame it on DJI because they own the market. Make a better priced drone to compete with DJI, no instead we are going to pay politicians and cry on Capitol Hill.
