I think the feedback from flying an airplane like that must give the visceral pleasures like that of a motorcycle. Motorcycles also bank left and right for turning, a sensation very close to that of an airplane and kind of thrilling in simple feelings.

Amazing in WWII the number of pilots so quickly trained to fly these complex machines starting from nothing. Let no one doubt they were Greatest Generation . Emmy and Mike are keeping history alive (and having fun). Thanks Chris!

My Grandpa was a pilot in VMB-433, Flying PBJ-1D's and PBJ-1J's (Navy/Marine Corps versions of B-25D's and J's). I never personally knew what it was like flying it, be he always described it as "one of the most forgiving aircraft he had ever flown, and surprisingly nimble. Very, very loud though, since the props were spinning more or less next to your head!" Danke, Christoph!

Last Thursday I walked out the DMV in Chaska MN (suburb of Minneapolis) and immediately spotted a twin engine plane flying towards me below the cloud deck on that overcast day. Sure enough I quickly recognized it was the unmistakable shape of a B25. I suspected it was Miss Mitchel, but there was no way for me to say for sure. There’s not that many B25s randomly flying around Minnesota. Either way, what an unexpected treat, after sitting in the DMV for two hours!

A family friend in 1940 was flying as copilot in these. When WW2 started he was given a farewell party at our home in Portland. He played our piano that night His name was Dean Davenport. He and his Captain , Ted Lawson and crew of the B-25 launched from the USS Hornet to avenge the attack on Pearl Harbor Hawaii in early 1942. They then crash landed off the beach in China, and were rescued and assisted by Chinese patriots and escaped and evaded to India. Dean left behind his sheet music , " smoke gets in your eyes"

Nice to see a B-25 with modern avionics. And the young lady sports USAF wings! My hat is off to her for making it through USAF flight school.

IMC from the right seat would be a challenge, though. with only an attitude indicator directly in front of the position. The scan all the way across the panel to monitor the other flight instruments would be tough and could be disorienting.

I have flown the B25 Guardian of Freedom. It was great. It is heavy, powerful and just a blast. I did ok but I was confused how the plane would no up snd down on me porpoising. What it was the people in the back would visit the tail and it would shift the weight. It reminded me of a powerful old dump truck. But you could stand it on the wing tip turning. Very maneuverable. The Sound is great. I also have been in a B17 but the B25 is still my favorite. The pilot took over and we did a simulated bomb run over Akron Airport. That was amazing and he really showed what it could do. The run up the engines before take off is great.

The B-25 was an amazing aircraft and shared many characteristics with the A-10. Advantage to B-25 with the optional 75mm cannon 😏. Thanks for your efforts Christoph, as always great stuff and best wishes to you & those keeping these relics flying!

I've been an aircraft mechanic for over 40 years. Big aircraft must have an army of maintainers PLUS engineering support. That's what I wonder about these old bombers and others. Do they have engineering support? I wouldn't ride on one unless I knew it had the same level of maintenance as an airliner. Some of our Boeing 757s are going past 100,000 hours. That's three times as many hours as a much older B-52H.

I’ve seen these in person and am always surprised at how Small this aircraft actually is. It’s a ‘medium bomber’ but not actually much larger than typical twin engine private personal plane and much smaller than anything I’ve ever flown commercially.
@martijn95683 ай бұрын
Jup, for a twin engined bomber the Mitchell certainly wasn't that big, although the Pe 2 Peshka was a lot smaller still.😅
