Pilots Eye View of World’s Most Dangerous Landing - Paro Airport, Bhutan!! | Airbus 319

Paro airport is considered as one of the most challenging airport in the world for the commercial jetliners to land.
The airport is located at an altitude of 7364 feet above mean sea level with runway elevation of 7362 feet and 7310 feet respectively for runway 15 and runway 33.
The runway length is 7431 feet ( 2265 meters) and width is about 30 meters which just covers the minimum runway width required by ICAO. ( one factor why Paro is considered one of the most challenging runway to land for the pilots)
Note: All Airbus aircraft are developed based on 45 m wide runways because it reflects the most frequently used runways by Airbus aircraft.
All flight and simulator certification tests linked to directional control on ground are performed on 45 m wide runways.

Very nice approach. Margin for error is much smaller than any normal straight in type approach but nothing there seemed “dangerous”. The captain’s performance was something to watch. I hate to give the public the impression that anything we do is dangerous, when we train so hard to make a flight as safe as possible. What you see here is a well trained skillful crew flying like professionals during a difficult approach, well done guys.

I think, what's considered "dangerous" is not the approach itself or the execution of it, but the environment of the airport degrading your options in case there is an error and increasing the seriousness of any error that might occur.

Look out the right when they are at 200 feet. The side of mountain is just off the wing. This is a high altitude, short runway airport and you understand the technical ability. They are flying a big slow to respond airplane.

Same here. I made a few wrong guesses. You can usually see the run way markings by 400 ft. I watched it again just to note where at what point I could see the runway.

I have done this many times in FSX and using the PMDG 737 800. I don't think I have got it right yet. Oh, I can get rubber on the runway, but it would not be pleasant for the passengers or the airframe. Very difficult landing

no, there's no guided landing in Paro. Only cloud break approach which doesn't even lead you to runway, just to generality of airport. They usually fly to VOR at around 18000ft which leads pilots to airport and assess if airport is visible. Pilots 100% handfly for the rest of approach. Then continue to descend until 10000ft into valley, before making a U-turn while descend to 9000-8000ft until they are in line with the river. Following it till visual with yellow roofed temple then making the famous turn into Runway 15. No ILS, no Localizer just pure visual into the runway

@@K1OIK yeah the ND is the navigation display with speed tape altitude tape, attitude info, and a bunch of other stuff, its right in front of the pilot. The ND sits to the the right of that (captain side) with nav data and a ton of other stuff
