I must say that your statement of a Robinson overhaul taking up to 6 months is debatable. Yes a Robinson in-house factory overhaul can take up to 6 months depending on their workload. However it is important to note that an RHC factory OH is a complete tear down of the entire helicopter much like a classic car restoration. Before the COVID-19 crisis Robinson was working on lessening the in-house OH lead times and actually hitting the 5 month mark. An R44 Raven II overhaul performed in the field by an authorized service center, which BC Heli is quite familiar with, averages around 240 man hours. These estimated hours can fluctuate depending on the teams experience of the unit in question. The point is that every helicopter has it’s challenges but eventually the mechanics gain the experience and knowledge to comply with the scheduled maintenance requirements well within the estimated timeframe in a safe and timely manner. So the statement of a G2 overhaul taking 4 days is a long shot but in the hands of a well experienced team may be possible. Well lets give them a buffer of a few more days, just in case. Much props to the BC Team for the video. Keep up the good work and always remember to double & triple check your work!

It seems utterly astonishing that the replacement of an extremely unsophisticated and elderly engine and the main and tail gearboxes of a light, two place utility helicopter should cost around $140,000!
@mirzakamenjas60894 жыл бұрын
Welcome to aviation. Most of 2200 hours accumulated are revenue hrs at $540/hr, so you do the math. Maintenance is a crucial component of a well operated company and its just a cost of doing business.

Yes and I did edit my above statement to take into account the core return on the gearboxes so it's more like $100K after the core returns.

@@mirzakamenjas6089 I'm confused. From what I've seen most helicopter pilot training costs between $150 and $250 an hour. Where does the $540/hr come from?

That's helicopter parts always expensive have to be made light weight but strong at the same time all materials have to be given a air worthy certificate which costs to via the helicopter manufacturers,👍

Cool. I missed these videos. Love the clock. Creative. I keep hearing that the 2200 is half as much for a cabri then a Robinson...is it true? What’s the actual cost if you don’t mind since you have both? I’m almost caught up on three years worth of videos. And I never miss a new one.

Hummm in America you need a Manufactures service manual if your working on the aircraft...didn't see that, the engine mounts require NDI, as parts removed they need to be Green, or yellow tagged with PN/Data on the tag, every part removed must be tagged. I sure hope your not a Commercial Operator ... I was always told Canada had a excellent Maintenance system ... seems to have detonated over the years.
@felixcat93184 жыл бұрын
Early on in the video, as the Engineer was working on the Fenestron, the Manufacturer's Service Manual was on his immediate workbench, opened at the exact page for the task in hand. Experienced, Professional Engineers carried out the work to the specifications and standards required by the Aircraft Manufacturer and the Canadian Regulatory Authority. This is hardly Rocket Surgery!
@BT2RC4 жыл бұрын
@@felixcat9318 Agreed...what wasn't shown on the video is the paper work that must be done...log entries per manufacturers specifications, replacement part numbers, serial numbers, tolerance measurements etc. all dated, counter signed and double checked. Then a test evaluation flight and more post flight checks...Then certificate of airworthiness is issued. There's a heap more too numerous to go into here.

Originally I posted that the overhaul cost around $140K Candian dollars. However something I wasn't thinking about when I posted it is that you get a core return on the two gearboxes. So this brings the overhaul down nearly $40K. So the upfront cost would be around $140K but when it all comes out in the wash it's more like $100K CAD. Hope that helps clarify.
@jimrogers9074 жыл бұрын
@@PilotYellow Thanks for sharing the cost. I had the same question. I assume that there are other time limited components that have to be addressed in the future, so the 140K is not a direct comparison to the Robinson rebuild, but good point about limited downtime and time limited components vs. calendar limited components. I really appreciate your videos and sharing what you do.
