Regarding the fiber optic cable for the 8KX, it's a better upgrade than it would at first seem. It's not merely longer, it is also much thinner and lighter. This makes it surprisingly less intrusive. It also has better durability. The Achilles heel of the Index is that the tether cables fail with regularity. And they're $130 each and often not available. The stock 8KX tether cable has similar life expectancy, but is half as expensive. The fiberoptic cable is still less expensive than the Index's tether cable and yet has a much longer life span.

I have an 8KX myself, along with an Index and a Quest 2. I think this review is spot on. The 8KX is the highest overall performance consumer VR headset on the market right now, but it is not something I would recommend to anyone who isn't an experienced and dedicated VR enthusiast with some technical chops. I still recommend the Index as the best overall VR headset for most people. Start with an Index, and then once you're up to handling it, you can upgrade your Index headset to the 8KX while continuing to use the knuckles and basestations from the Index kit. Keep the Index headset as a fallback, and you won't need to worry about being dead in the water when you run into some problem with the temperamental 8KX. It's pretty easy to swap back and forth between the two headsets as they both use SteamVR.
@ZstormVR2 жыл бұрын
I am both happy and sad that you feel the exact same way! If the software could be 100% polished this really would be the main choice and there wouldn't be the need for the index! I am very glad I get to experience the Pimax 8KX and i cannot wait until i get to hop into Assetto corsa and race some open world maps and really take the Pimax "for a drive" (I see you are a fellow miata owner, I have a 1991 Mazda Miata, built it up for SCCA AutoX myself! I race at Road America in the summer time! I have a full youtube channel where I had shown off me building up the "Joker Miata" kzbin.info) But yes, as you said very easy to swap back and forth between the headsets!

What they mean is the amount of power required to run games generally at those frames, of course 2x series will work. - Screen door effect is seeing the pixels within the screen. You can have high res and it wont matter if you can see the actual pixels on the screen, the two are mutually exclusive. There's a difference with looking at something low res and seeing screen door. - Mention the screen but no specifics, hows the colors? Hows the contrast? Hows the blacks? Godrays? @ZstormVR Жыл бұрын
So assuming you’re using it for sim racing, the biggest issue with the headset isn’t the distortion. It’s the software for connecting it. It’s a nightmare to get this headset up and tracking properly. I really hope the Crystal solves this.

@@ZstormVR My Pimax 8KX arrived a few days ago. The Valve base stations and controllers a day later. I got everything set up this morning and just finished a 3 hour gaming session. The headset was already on the latest firmware and I downloaded the current version of PiTool. I had one SteamVR crash and other than that it was smooth sailing. No tracking problems. Hopefully that will hold up over time. My initial impression of the 8KX is that I like it. The FOV is the attraction here, and I was very surprised by how little perceptible image distortion there was near the edges of the visual field. As far as image quality goes I prefer the Meta Quest Pro for its world class optical stack, far better contrast, and razor sharp edge to edge clarity. The primary thing I dislike about the Pimax 8KX is the cheap and flimsy head band/strap setup. It made it somewhat of a pain to get a good fit and I was fiddling with it a lot. But once it was settled I didn't have to touch it. Would I recommend it? Only to people who really need big FOV and want a display port connection to their GPU. For practically everyone else I would recommend the Meta Quest Pro...especially with the recent price cut to $999.

I'd get it. It's incredible. The Pimax 8K X is easily the best headset on the market. You get the full amount discounted off the Pimax 12K if you choose to purchase it. Or, if you purchase the Pimax 5K Super, you'll get $900 off the 12K even though the 5K S only costs around $500 - $600. I purchased a 5K Super and it's awesome. Playing all my racing sims at 160 Hz / fps with Pimax's 2nd largest FOV mode which still obliterates the FOV of all other non-Pimax headsets. There are no headsets coming out in the near-future even close to the specs of the Pimax 8K X, let alone the upcoming 12K which probably won't have a competitor in the next 2-4 years as it's specs absolutely destroy every thing else. In short, I'd easily get an 8K X. You'll get the full price you paid for it off the 12K if you ever decide to upgrade in the next year or 2. All non-Pimax headsets are a joke. I have tried almost all of them. They're all trash. They all have atrocious horizontal FOV that makes it seem like you're playing some gimmickey toy made for 6-year olds, they almost all have terrible vertical FOV, they almost all have terrible refresh rates. They're all jokes that get old after 20 minutes whereas Pimax is an incredible experience where you feel like you get transported into another world every time you use it.

It's a little misleading to say the 8kx is the highest rez on the market, it has a large horizontal resolution but this is just for aspect ratio. In terms of pixel density, it's only 2160p, which the G2 matches, and the vp2/aero both exceed. Also the 2080ti is comparable to the 3070 😜

You were right on the 2080ti aspect, this has been brought to my attention of how wrong I have been, I am willing to take the flame for that 😅 While I do agree with you, that the G2 matches it’s density (honestly text is MORE clear in the G2 than the 8KX but man is the G2 just a fumble truck mess of a headset and a huge reason why I haven’t reviewed the one I own yet 😅) The 8KX having that same resolution, at the 200 degrees FOV is really something special. The 2080TI is not even close to the 3080, it is a bit slower than the 3070 (1-3 %) in most games. This headset is not even close to getting the framerate needed even with a 3090TI. Hopefully a 4090 card will give half the frames needed in native resolution. So the problem is GPU power, they keep on adding more pixels but there is no way to run these headsets as advertised.

Not at all! I am just a Variety VR content creator! My goal was never to be a strictly Zenith content creator :) But I will be still showing off lots of Zenith content hear in the near future! I have been working very hard on getting some tough projects done, and this was one of those! Thanks for watching though buddy I appreciate it!

The 2080ti is not comparable to the 3080 at all. If you you want to compare it to a 3070 go ahead.
@ZstormVR2 жыл бұрын
Look up comparison performance charts, as far as frame rates go, percentages are closer to the 3080 than the 3070 :)

Point being, 3070/2080ti/3080, still will struggle with any of those cards with the max resolution :)

@@razorhanny My apologies I’ll give you that it is closer to the 3070, my mind appears to have gotten mixed up on benchmarks. Too bad we can’t get any of them for a reasonable MSRP for the foreseeable future anyways 😅

@@ZstormVR you're good m8. This cycle of GPU mining is dying anyway, so the prices will probably keep going down for some time.

LMAO no, the 2080Ti isn't comparable to the 3080. 3070 maybe.

@@ZstormVR Sounds rather negative compared to the date of this review, what soured you on Pimax?

BUT If you are not favourableish with your review you might not be offered a review model next time round, So sorry we must still take your review with a little bit of salt.

Eh not true fully, if the product was complete shit, I would say so, and wouldn't WANT to review another product. Reviewing the product was something I had wanted to do, i didn't get to keep the headset or get paid anything for my time. I have a 5K sitting at home I haven't had the time to set aside and look at or review yet. I do appreciate you watching though, because everything here is genuinely my honest thoughts.

Next you said that it has a 210 fov diagonally and 170 horizontally...again wrong...the 170 is vertically and the 210 is diagonally/horizontally...man I am so sick of people barfing out content without doing their research and getting proper information out there for people. Wth is wrong with youtubes algorithm to suggest this garbage review
@ZstormVR2 жыл бұрын
Hey pal, I took the EXACT specs given to me BY Pimax themselves. I dumped a ton of research, and 30 hours of editing into this video. It is 115 vertically. 200 degrees diagonally (not 210 not sure where you pulled that number from) and 170 vertically. I sat down with Pimax’s COO and executives in Vegas and we all talked about the Pimax 8KX.

Definatly not worth it! See Edit below Definitley worth it!!! Have had my new PiMax 8KX for about a month now and during that time it has worked for about a week. The list of problems just gets longer and longer. Can not work with steam - Steam just crashes as soon as it sees the Pimax. Tech support says reload steam, reload Pitool, Reload SteamVR. Try this setting and try that setting. But it still does not work. It is even difficult to turn on! Sometime it conects straight away and other times not at all. Sometimes you get a green light (all good), sometime a purple light (reprojection is on) and sometime an orange light. There is no way to control this behaviour. The Pimax was not designed to be used with steam. In fact I would say that the product is not complete and still being tested. And you can be a beta tester for only $2000. A serious waste of time and money and I would be happy to get rid of mine for 75% of what it cost me. Sad to say that it is just not ready for the average VR ready computer savy consumer. I have just spent an hour and a half with Pimax support remoting in to my PC to successfully solve the problem. I am impressed that any hardwear manufacturer would spend that much time with a single unit buyer to solve a problem. Kudos to Pimax!
