Thanks for the opotunity for me to endulge in memories of Pin MIll and the Thames Barges that began 70 years ago. My home then was Ipswich, I was then old enough to join the Sea Cadets on Yarmouth Rd, in the summer months we had the great priviledge to spend week ends on board a WW11 MGB, our duties included watching and recording shipping to and from the port. The point is most traffic then was the wonderful Thames Barge. Later in life I got to know Skipper Bob Roberts, I still have his excellent books of life at sea. Its good to now, at the age of 86 that the Barge Race is still an important event.
