It's funny that one would think there was little to no need to explain tilt mechanisms, however it certainly helped me fix a problem where the machine just simply wouldn't start a new game with the press of a button. The problem was an 'always closed' type of tilt switch was open. The TILT light was on and the ball in play light was showing the last ball played. A simple bend of the tilt leaf fixed it, so thank you Mike for taking the time to record and upload this video.

The "slam switch" on the bottom panel is specifically to stop people dropping the machine in order to activate the coin switches to get a free game.

Those tilt mechanisms were easy to bypass in Bingo pinball machines by drilling a small hole next to it and spraying hair spray on it isolating the contact.

The Tilt relays are always connected to the ball index relays in EM games? because the ball index relays its purpose is to count the balls or reduce the ball counter?

I can imagine after watching this video that new pinball owners are taking those out and having a time of their lives. 😅

I got a ball stuck and needed to move the machine and got a tilt on a really good game of baby pacman. I mean good for me. I still got a new high score of 196k but could have had the new high score for my local arcade probably.

I have a Silverball Mania that has the tilt on all the time. Checked to plumb bob and it is open, slam switch on coin open, tilt on playfield also good. Lift ball also tests open. Is there a connector point that I can test for either a gnd or voltage. Any advice from anyone appreciated.

Older Bally games have the capacitor on the switches, which are usually closed for a tiny bit amount of time, since they can't scan the matrix very quickly, unlike newer games. Shorted capacitor will act as a closed jumper, which will cause the affected switch to act as if it was always closed. You have to either remove or replace the capacitor on the tilt switch.

Sometimes you need to find the sweet spot when bumping the table.
