On the first day of the month, it's tradition in England to say the phrase, "pinch, punch, first of the month...and no returns".. This is a phrase learnt by children in school and carried into adulthood as a little bit of fun.
The idea is to pinch someone gently, punch that person gently, and then to say that 'you can't pinch or hit me back.
It also has to be said before 12 midday.
