Pinch sticks were used before any kind of standard measuring systems were invented. Long before rulers or tape measures.

I like the tips you put on your version. Are they Holly? Would be neat to do the tips in brass so they are less prone to damage. Wood/brass dovetails are so cool.

Yes, they are holly. Brass would look good too, but maybe it would be more likely to damage the work? Perhaps I'll try next time.

Nice work. I am always amazed how these preindustrial tool designs are so elegant in production and practice.

Interesting build- but why are you paying for a kit? (Just looked- £66!) Brass 1" square tubing is available, and cost around £2-£3 for enough to make the hardware. Comes in mill, brush, or bright finish- I use mill and just run some emery cloth over it. Thumb wheels are readily available, or use a butterfly nut. Nylon washer- I use a U shaped piece of shim brass. The frame retains this, and it gives excellent protection to the wood.

Absolutely, but the kit was a gift from a generous viewer.

Any videos on yours ?

Sadly not. I wasn't too well at the time I made it, and couldn't concentrate on making, photographing and filming comprehensively. I do make them to sell now, so next time I'll try and film it.

The amber coloured chisel handle? Lying on the bench?
@mitchwoodwork Жыл бұрын
@ikust007 It is, as suggested, a chisel handle, on an old marples chisel.
