Fun fact in 11:50 you see the lobster is shifting around in a compact pose with its smaller limbs wiggling around. Typically if a lobster feels under threat or being seen by a potential threat they try to hide before running away or pinching back. They don’t his by remaining still with its larger claws bending towards itself, it’s main flipper tail curled under and it’s smaller limbs slowly digging in the sand to hide itself. Really nice we get to see that with Lonnie just before the pinch EDIT: another fun fact, the larger the lobster, the weaker the claws. as they age their nervous system degrades over time, so does their strength, so when it comes to Lonnie it’s likely because of its size it’s beginning to grow weaker, or that it doesn’t feel threatened nor interested in pinching. Smaller commercial lobsters are younger, and thus, have all their strength and power, which is why they have a nastier pinch. Lobsters overall are pretty interesting when it comes to aging.

Hey, thanks for being a good guy and setting them free. I spent three years keeping many American Lobsters as pets, and your assumptions about their water temps was correct. They act very differently when underwater as they weigh 3X as much when out of the water and can barely move. Their pincer / ripper claw is optimized for cutting flesh (note the tips curled in, like an eagle's beak) so it's all about a pulling motion and not crushing. When putting my hands in their tanks, it was always the pincer claw that was the threat...when attacking, they lunge and jab with that claw. Peeing from their faces is a defense mechanism: shooting a cloud of urine at an attacking fish, then rocketing away backwards. These creatures are highly intelligent: estimated on the same order of intelligence as an octopus. I would routinely have jaw-dropping interactions that would have to be witnessed to be believed, including communication (tap codes), problem solving, mimicking and cooperative effort. Also interesting is that their claw arrangement varies. Nature is Nuts.

been lobster fishing with my dad for almost two years now and the worst pinch I got was probably from a juvenile no bigger than my hand in length, he didn't break skin like other ones have but because he was so tiny (quite literally could only fit a finger in the claws) I had to use so much more care when removing him so I didn't damage him before release. the bigger ones have a stronger grip for sure but their claws are big and durable enough to wedge a piece of metal in to pry them off or keep them from tightening their grip, babies are way to tiny and fragile so you need to gently coax them off.

One word of correction though. Coyote calls it “giant lobster”. Sorry, but not a chance! Not even remotely close. That was not even medium-size lobster. Giant lobster crashing claw is more than twice the size of the human head. Its a size of medium size dog or 1.5-year-old kid (Lobster's trunk. With claws it's twice as big). It will not only crash hand bones but given a chance, easily femur or tibia bones. About lobsters attitudes: I've seen one time, lobster (medium size) in 4ft deep plastic borrow with 1 ft of water inside. If you peeked into the borrow from the top, the lobster would raise it's both claws above the water in a threat than jump to a height of 3 ft above the water. Try putting your hand into such lobster,... but then again, I'm not sure I would want to see it. Asking Coyote to do it with a truly giant lobster, would be as asking someone to record live amputation. Not an intelligent idea to make living, or to increase the number of YT's viewers.

my mother and father were divers and there have been divers who got their fingers broken from lobsters. they bite ALLOT harder underwater than above. but that is a very small dinky lobster.
