What is the best method of drying green needles? I had to prune a tree yesterday and have already made use of the branches and shorter needles. I would love to try this with the long ones.

Long leaf pine needle from the pine tree and artificial sinew.

I am using the Pine needles in my area, which is the Ponderosa Pine. The needles tend to be about 8 in. long, so I figure I would just need to add more bundles as I weave around. These are last year's harvests that I saved with the intention of making baskets. My issue is that when I try to curve the needles for the beginning stage (11:44), they break. Because my bundles seem thinner than your pine needles (only 2-3 needles per bunch), I am using 8 bundles. I have soaked them for about 1/2 hr prior to using and keep the remaining in the water as I work. Should I be soaking them longer or are they no longer pliable because they are a year old? Thank you :)

Hello, we just used some that were over two years old. I soaked them for 6 hours in the sun. They were pliable enough to use. I had an elder relative that could use 4" needles. We also use sweet grass and straw!

Where would one find long leaf pine needles in NJ?
@TyGouldJacinto2 жыл бұрын
Salem County NJ. Greenwich. We have them on the tribal grounds in Fairton, that's where I get them. They are also sold online as a mulch.

@@TyGouldJacinto I wondered if I could find them in the woods somewhere, possibly the pine barrens.
