I think this would be fun. BTW....pine needles are wonderful for mulch around blueberry bushes. The bushes love an acid soil.

Good tip! I have enough for a blueberry farm!

I don't think the brown water is full of dirt, i think some of the brownish part it's because of the tannin.

Can you use much shorter pine needles? I couldn't find any that are as long as the ones you have.
@TextileIndie Жыл бұрын
Yes you can use shorter needles. It just means adding needles more often. I would also make sure your stitches are super tight as you work in order to hold things in place as you won't have length to depend on.

Hi, I am loving your videos, they have been very helpful. When you harvest fresh pine needles and lay them out on cardboard, how long do they take to dry?
@TextileIndie Жыл бұрын
Thanks! I usually let mine sit for up to two weeks. Depending on the humidity in your area it may take less time than this. My area is very damp most of the year.
@MichelleSumner-l2r Жыл бұрын
Thank you, very very dry here, so will see how they go. Do you have a video of the popcorn stitch, particularly progressing to the next coil after backstitching the current one?@@TextileIndie

Would lemon juice be suitable for pine needles with possible mold or mildew? Considering using it for the citric acid, and the pleasant smell.
@TextileIndie Жыл бұрын
I think it's worth a try. Let me know how it works. A fun experiment would be testing vinegar and lemon juice side by side.

Claro, você definitivamente pode coletar agulhas de pinheiro do chão para fazer cestas! E fico feliz que você tenha gostado do vídeo.

Thanks for this! How come you dry them before taking them off the branch? I just took all my needles off fresh - might that create an issue?
@TextileIndie9 ай бұрын
Both methods work just fine, I was harvesting a ton of pine needles for a class. I dried on the branch because it is faster than pulling them off when fresh and I needed a ton. It takes a lot more space to dry branches than a tray of needles so please use the method that works for you.

Do the green ones turn brown after thwy dry out?
@TextileIndie Жыл бұрын
The green needles fade over a few years, but they stay green for a long time.

Can I give my needles a bleach bath if they have minor mildew flecks?
@TextileIndie Жыл бұрын
Yes, some weavers add dishsoap or a little bleach to the soaking water. The key is to rinse them really well. What are you planning to make?
