@@BeardedBored OK I learned alot on my first sugar wash. First, I didnt make enough wash. I used George's Karo syrup recipe and the distillation stalled. I adjusted the pH added nutrient and more DADY and it fermented from 1.092 to 1.002. I also learned that a refractometer is not to be used when measuring sugar and alcohol. Duh. I thought I had a 30 abv fermentation which cant happen. Now I know how to use the refractometer. While trying to get the Plus to work I sent this to the liquor fairy who pot stilled half of the wash. Amazed to see 80% abv (actually likely above the refractometer range) first coming out and watched it drop to ~30%. The problem is it all smelled a bit like funky Karo. Next time I invert the sugar. I did get the Plus to work - awesome machine! The issues were with connectivity and I can send Lafras an update for what to expect when getting Macs to run it. The number of temperatures it monitors is really cool. The liquor fairy was able to run some of the left over wash and got a bit of heads and hearts but now I know to make alot more starting wash. I can see it will take a bit of experimenting to get the % heads vs hearts dialed in - and thats not even including the flavored spirits. What fun! Thanks, BnB!

I will say that I fermented a batch of crye (50% corn, 50% rye, it’ll make a grown man crye) at way too low a temperature and it went down the baby puke trail in a big way. It was hypothetically distilled anyway, and it then became a well-defined baby puke. The butyric acid was very much front and center. I hypothetically used it to kill back some weeds on the fence row, and cleaned everything thoroughly. Lafras has knocked it out of the park! I have been watching him for a while and rooting for him since your first video. I have a plus and have been deep inside it because it was broken in shipping (sometimes that happens). I know for a fact that it is very well conceived. My condolences to Ben’s friends and family. Rock on Chris, and rock on Lafras. ❤

Oh man, yours is very similar to what I did. Just about the same volume, I used 1 whole pineapple roasted, 3 bananas roasted, and 1 full coconut toasted per 10 gallons. I did a clean fermentation (no special funk) but used Kivik Arset, which can handle an acidic environment. I let my fermentation go acidic intentionally, hoping some of the acids would add to the estrification process. I let it finish out around ph 3.3 or so. It came out mostly like a pineapple rum, with a bit of a banana funk and just a hint of toasted coconut, but there is also a bit of a guava like profile from the estrification and or the contribution from the yeast. Overall, it is very tropical fruit tasting. About a 3rd filled an L2 bad mo barrel, the rest is staying white to top up in a Solara like situation as I enjoy this, and remember Ben's contribution to the home distilling community for a long time to come. I love this project, and the fact that you, Jessie, Christopher, and others brought this forward to the community.
