I had Mr Pinetop Perkins in for several shows back in the 1980's in South Bend, Indiana. His Pinetop Boogie Woogie was recorded at Sun Records in 1951. The same year I was born. He was one hell of a piano player but originally, and I don't know if man fold know this about Pinetop but he was a guitar player until one house party a jealous husband attacked Pinetop with a knife while Pinetop was in the restroom with the man's wife. The rest is history. And he use to tell me...."You find em and I wll grind em! Love and Compassion and Gratitude, Pete Wehle. (Way to go Matt keep playin those Boogie Woogie Blues.)

He sounds so good especially because his left hand work is very, very good. He is using a great baseline. Fantastic job, Matt. You are up with the greats.

This is indeed one of the best versions of Pinetop's Boogie Woogie. It's also nice to see how it graduallytransforms to, or rather incorporate elements of, the Albert Ammons version - Boogie Woogie Stomp. Really great playing!

The end is from Boogie woogie stomp yeah, but the rest is Pinetop. Also the BPM Pinetop boogie woogie stomp is a bit faster

I used to play some boogie woogie and the one thing which is painful is keeping that bassline going with your left hand. Obviously you get used to it, but trying to play again it's really hard to keep a steady beat!

@Boogiewoogiekid15 жыл бұрын
The orignal piece was by Clarence "pinetop" Smith - but then Albert Ammons took it and made it into "boogie woogie stomp" - mine is a mixture of these two, although more albert ammons than the other, plus I have put my own spin on things - I know Pinetop perkins version but I don't like it as much - luckyluca is a fantastic young player who I enjoy watching too.

This piece for me has evolved through at least 3 different arrangements from parts I liked of other peoples arrangements/playing - If I like a piece alot I usually will change it over time or add to it - mostly though it is from Albert Ammons Boogie Woogie Stomp - I learned it by ear from the recording

what´s the differenz between Boogie stomp and pinetops boogie?
@Burnsomatic16 жыл бұрын
Hey Matthew, is the left hand pattern that you use in this boogie exactly the same as the one you use in Roll 'em Pete? I am desparate to know what it is. I think I have it, but I can't see what finger you use on the last note before the down beat. Is it a 2 or a 1? And do you really play two fifths and a sixth consecutively in the pattern? Please tell me. My life depends on it.

Compare this to Albert Ammons' "Boogie Woogie Stomp" from 1936. That is what you are actually playing. Not Pinetops Smith... Great Job though....
