Just stumbled upon your videos me and my wife are doing the same thing. 55 acres currently renovating the 1960s ranch house that was here, and working towards a custom build on the other side of our pond. As for the brick you made the right choice!

The style of the house dictates what kind of mortar finish looks best. I think you were wise to decide in advance what look you wanted to achieve and then stay on top of what's being done to ensure your look is realized. Take care and God Bless - and Merry Christmas!

I like what they did first myself. I have laid a lot of brick and to me the ones you like are just sloppy. Even 400 year old Churches have clean brick joints so I don't think it is age relayed. Having said all that, it is your house and should be what you want, not what I like and that is what makes it your home. So of course you are right for you.

I like the traditional or struck joints. It's probably because I'm a Mason. There are many different types of joints and designs in brick. I've never laid brick on side like that .Looks good.

When building or having a house built you must stay on top of the build to make sure you get what you want not what they want you to have.

My in-laws were having a house built, my father in-law showed up every day and more times than he should've had to he found problems. Its like the contractors didn't know how to read prints or worse didn't care. It was a nightmare for them. Yours looks like its coming along beautifully, cooler heads prevail!!

We built a custom in 2017 and it was very stressful. The brick the delivered was exactly what we asked for based on what our builder said was on another house that he built that we liked very much. The problem was he was incorrect on the name of the brick. My wife showed up when they had half the house bricked and called me to say it was not the brick that we liked. Luckily, we liked the brick more than our original choice. They also delivered the wrong stone but had to pick it up and bring correct stone. Swore I would never build another house. I turned 66 two days ago and I`m still working on that anger issue myself (my wife might say otherwise). Nothing wrong with taking up for yourself and making things right though. Some people will run over you if you let them.

I would have used a darker mortar myself. And you have got to calm down things will go wrong especially on the interior, light switches will not make sense ( location)) to you once you see them installed. I hope you chose 36" or taller bathroom cabinets because once you have them where your not bending down to wash face brush teeth, you don't know what your missing..makes a huge difference.. Also don't cheap out on toilets and toilet heights.. Get quality water faucets ( kitchen and bathroom) I hope electrician ran wires to corner eaves for floodlights that you'll want. If you have an office I put twice as many outlets or double outlets in my walls in it..4 plugs) not 2.. Cause you'll need charging batteries for cameras, electronics etc. Also if you've thought about adding an epoxy coating in garage do it before you move in cheaper and easier to get done.
