I think her flaw as a diamond was being childlike, she was young at heart, to the point she lacked the maturity to realize what she was doing to everyone around her and it took Greg to finally show the slightest bit of repercussions for her actions; like the egocentric stage of childhood. Hence, why she decided to give up her form to become a better version of herself by making Steven with the traits of herself and Greg. I don’t think she is a villain per say but, due to what her “flaw” as a diamond made her oblivious too has caused her to be a past tense antagonist for Steven’s life.

Basically it would have been worse overall for her to save spinel for everyone.

Taylor-Ray you’re right. Rose lying to the others was bad, but poofing Bismuth was a hard decision she HAD to make at the time. This is probably the most mature and thought-provoking view of why Pink Diamond is bad. It’s opinions like these where they don’t choose sides of whether she *is* too good to be bad or she *is* too bad then being good, and that it brings up really good points with important evidence based on clips, quotes, etc., that really shines a light of hope for people of the fandom seeking answers and closure to these character traits. But much like the movie “there’s no happily ever after.“ We’ve yet to know more for what’s in store as the series still carries on. It can’t be promised, but hopefully things turn for better then for worse for the fandom.

“If I could be...half of what you think of me...I could do without anything...I could even learn to love like you...” “I always thought I must be bad, but now I’m sure...cause...I think you’re so good and I’m nothing like you.” I really think it’s mostly from Pink’s perspective. She wasn’t perfect, she made mistakes. She, like the other diamonds, didn’t understand others like we do. But she still loved things like Greg and her son. This is why Steven is the perfect protagonist for this story because he’s the representation of Pink learning what love is. In Steven, he feels more emotion than other characters which is why characters just flock to him. He understands them and makes them understand. Pink made horrible mistakes but, on a human level, we do too. It doesn’t excuse what she did but we also have to understand that Pink wasn’t human with human values. Which makes the things she’s done more believable. This was further exemplified in the episode where Greg tried to fuse with her and she laughed but then stopped when Greg was crying. “Why are you crying?” She says this with a look of genuine curiosity but to us it was clear as day why Greg was upset. Those kinds of human values are what separates us from people like the Diamonds. She’s something that was trying to learn what makes these strange humans so interesting. And I can bet you that part of the reason why she found humans so fascinating was their differences in values. Values that seem to make no sense to gems but an impractical sense to us. She wanted to learn to “love like you” like Greg and other humans (because she found it so amazing). Pink may have been cruel but she was also extremely ignorant.

Wow, that is a really fair point that I do agree with. It's unfair to judge rose/pink based as if she was human. Also, she was held up to a very high standard, being a diamond. So it makes sense she would rebel against the other diamonds because they pretended to be perfect, so if pink made a mistake, she would want to hide it. And with that amount of pressure, it makes sense that she would run because she was never taught how to cope with those kinds of feelings.

This is my viewpoint actually. Although I do need to act that Pink’s psychology is as a human too. Even the gems and diamonds themselves. They are all imperfect and driven by an ambition to colonize and reproduce. Pink is that pivotal role of the realization of the evil within their empire. I do not know if we can call this human, but I really think that this is how we behave. With all the habitus or ingrained ideologies from our own nation/tribes, we are often pushed to fight for it or even cause fight for it. However, there are people who break free from it then realizes the mistake. That is what Pink represents. I do think that the story and characters have bis o flaw, but to end on a note that Pink diamond is merely acting upon selfishness is a bad analysis towards their behavior. Ever since the beginning of the show, they acted like humans; ergo, it is presumably sufficient to say that they can be analyzed as humans.

Agreed, that's absolutely in keeping with Pink's persona. Yellow has the garb of a soldier and is quick, decisive, brash, violent, all those attributes. Blue is in very round garb of somber blue - she is all emotion, mostly sad, wills others to feel her pain, wallows in suffering, etc. White is brittle perfection with her spiky headpiece, unilateral view (white is the non-inclusion of other colors, after all), absent of feeling, shows psychopathy and yet complete propriety and moral superiority at the same time *shudder*. While pink is literally in clown's clothes. She's the poppet, the guignol. The Fool. She is the embodiment of childish fancy with all the passions, daring yet thoughtlessness of a child. I think it's kind of interesting that we actually see growth from Pink Diamond in reverse; we started the show with the person she grew into; Rose Quartz was her stopping point, the end result of Pink Diamond learning and growing as a person. But as we go farther into Pink Diamond's past, we get to see more of her younger self making very childish mistakes over and over and over. I think there's something to be said about successfully deconstructing the image children have of their parents as flawless beings, but I also think the fandom is kinda' throwing the baby out with the bathwater by claiming that Rose is *all* bad. She did change, and for the better, as she was willing to give up her form to bring Steven into the world. I think that's proof enough that Rose Quart grew significantly past her Pink Diamond origins.

Except even her final act, giving up her life to create Steven, was a completely selfish act. It's actually what has always made me despise her. The entire reason Pearl rebelled and pretended to shatter Pink was because Rose told her she wanted to live on Earth with her. That is what finally got a very apprehensive Pearl to go along with "shattering" her. It was pure manipulation. It is obvious throughout the show that Pearl has very little regard for the Earth or humans, only fighting for them because Pink/Rose believed in them. Pearl actually seems to rather enjoy the gem world, and rebelling against it was actually sort of not rebelling, since she only rebelled to please her diamond, which was her sole purpose. Rose reneged on the one thing that made Pearl "shatter" Pink, abandoning Pearl on a planet she didn't much care for, unable to return to Homeworld, and having to fight the gem monsters and take care of Steven. Rose's final act was the most devastating thing she could have done to Pearl, who truly loved Pink/Rose in a way that Pink/Rose could never love anyone or anything.

@@reedfamily841 It's obvious on closer inspection that Pink never developed romantic feelings for Pearl, she probably eventually developed a relationship similar to the one we can assume she had with Pink Pearl (someone who was taken away from her). The way I see it, Greg was a turning point for Rose. She realized how much she has acted only to serve herself, and decided to give something to Greg that would sacrifice her existence. Throughout the tapes of Rose, we see that all she wanted for Steven was for him to be able to love being himself; growing and changing, something she failed to do in her life. I agree that it is tragic that Pearl never got to have the "happily ever after" with Pink that she imagined but throughout the series we see her attachment to the Earth grow from something purely based on a lingering connection to Rose into an appreciation for the family she has made there and the new life she is leading. The point is, Pink Diamond is meant to be a flawed character. She is meant to represent a person who has difficulty understanding how emotions work (which btw is an ignorant topic on Homeworld). So with the creation of Steven, her character can be contrasted with a being who can better learn and grow. Someone who truly deserves to have her power.

Well yeah absolutely...but that's the problem. She ran away from everything before she even had a slight chance at accepting/embracing the things she'd done that's "bad". Therefore, never comes to terms with her wrong doings, therefore never getting a redemption arc. Meanwhile, everyone else is still here. Yeah i think people are missing the fact that literally no one has forgiven the other diamonds. We ignore them because the finale ruined them and there isn't anything to talk about. But people keep praising Pink to hell and back saying that she was such a good leader and an ideal role model. NO she wasn't. When it came to a full blown war she refused to confront it with the intent on winning because she wouldn't take down any other gem (im sorry but in war you don't win by knocking people out). When offered a way to win the war she punished someone for trying to help her and their friends live. When everything was all done and in shambles she left her friends to clean up the leftovers of her mess without ever telling them anything and leaving hte one person who knew it all to suffer in silence. She is a bad person, a good character, but a bad person.

She will never truly be redeemed being that she's kinda dead. Steven took her place when he came to be and there is no turning back. People can make justifications for her and Steven can solve all her problems, but it'll never be a true redemption being that it was Steven that handled her past issues and not her herself. She never came back to explain herself or apologize and she can't do that because Steven is her now. She's not an evil person, but she's definitely flawed in the way that she just ran from her issues and left people like Pearl, Spinel, Bismuth, and Pink Pearl behind with a bunch of baggage to deal with. Like did she ever even wonder about Spinel left alone in that garden or Bismuth bubbled up and locked away somewhere with no one to find her? Pearl and Garnet had just thought Bismuth got destroyed in the war or something. That's pretty messed up.

Steven Universe, once you remove all of the magical elements from it, at its core is about the impact of a parent's suicide on the child she left behind and his efforts to pick up the pieces. Steven still loves his mom, but he is finally mature enough to understand that she wasn't a very good person and he understands that that's not his fault. The movie really made a point of his being burnt out trying to clean up after her, but drove home his desire to be a better person than she was. Overall I think the show/movie did a pretty good job with such heavy subject matter.

She thought that when she gave birth to Steven, he'd never have to deal with her problems. And yes she knew she'd lose her form. But she was giving it to a new life! Giving her life away to someone who can change! Reminder that we're being shown her character arc BACKWARDS. She never meant to thrust her problems onto Steven. She thought all her problems were over. She thought that her problems were never gonna rise from the grave. She thought that the diamonds were never gonna come back. @@Starrrycandy if she thought all her problems were over, and keep in mind that some of those problems she directly caused, and just assumed she could kill herself and Steven wouldn't have to deal with any of it, yeah, it is her fault, even if she didn't mean it. Steven has every single right to not love her or forgive her, because even if her development was done backwards, he gets constantly exposed to all her negative sides, and that has been going on since Season 3. That's not his fault, it's not something he can avoid, and he doesn't owe her his love or forgiveness, even though I'm sure someday he might be able to. It's his to give, not hers to receive. It's called setting a boundary. Steven is just really bad at doing that because he thinks his problems and feelings don't matter and that he has no right to set up a boundary as long as he's helping other people, not matter what said people did to him. It's a destructive behavior that was developed because of several reasons, but the biggest of them is because Steven has a hard time trying to figure out if he even actually exists. He spent so long being told by literally everyone about how great his mother was, about how amazing and loving and how he should strive to be like her, like the Gems wanted, and then got told and SHOWN that she wasn't that great of a person after all. Actually, she was pretty horrible once upon a time, and even for a long time after that, and then he was constantly thrust into one apocalyptic situation after another because of some bullshit she or her family caused, and then his idea and general relationship with her became obviously extremely more complicated. And then after he realized he wasn't his mom and accepted that every bad thing she did wasn't his fault nor his responsibility, he was already so deep into this destructive cycle that he couldn't seem to escape, because all he knew how to do was avoid death and help other people, whether he liked it or not. And then Spinel came, and then the Rose Quartzes, and then Pink Pearl, and that all made him realize that no matter how much he tried to trick himself into thinking that everything was fine now and that his hurt and trauma didn't matter, it would ALWAYS come back to haunt him, no matter what. And that left scars on him, scars that ran through his brain as they do through his bones, and they almost consumed him. But after realizing in Change Your Mind that he was not his mom, that he didn't have to be his mom, that he EXISTED, he thought that that was it. But it wasn't. He still had to accept all this trauma and all this hurt and rage that he had repressed for everyone's sake, always plastering a fake smile no matter how much they hurt him, he had to accept that that was WRONG, and that he was RIGHT to feel that way, and that his friends and family wouldn't abandon him even with all of this anger and hurt and rage that he held inside him for so long, that he thought he didn't have a right to feel, that he thought made him a MONSTER, that they would all be there for him like he was there for them, not matter how much they hurt him, even unintentionally. And he finally accepted that, in I'm My Monster. That's why after that he could finally start his path to heal. So yeah, in conclusion, she didn't MEAN to put all of this on him, you're right about that. It just doesn't change much.

Curing Corruption was evidently impossible to accomplish by Pink/Rose alone; and when Steven was born there was no inkling about The Cluster, much less that it would hatch in little more than a decade later and either destroy the Earth or invite the return of the Gem Empire's forces if something had gone wrong with it. Steven had no more reason to hate his mother for sacrificing herself to create him, than a child whose mother suffering from a terminal disease nevertheless chose to give birth.

Rose's personality is actually perfect for the show's morals. If there's one lesson to be learned in the show, it's that her name is lapis. Ok, if there's another lesson to be learned, it's that you don't have to be what others think you are. The show teaches us that most of the time, no one is like any preconceived notions of them. This is also applicable to Pink diamond. I realized this once it became clear when she was willing to resort to war but not as her self. If she had put her foot down as pink diamond and said she will resort to war to protect earth, than she could protected to earth and prevented a war. And if even if the other diamonds were willing to go to war with pink over earth, pink would have been far better off as she would have been able to rally a much larger military force as pink diamond than rose and she could have saved more gems with larger military forces.

I think by the time Pink is "shattered" and we see Rose living on Earth, there is a genuine attempt at change. I think though that Greg was the first person to truly make Rose think about whether she was a good person or not. And ultimately, Rose's willingness to give up her form I think was a sincere attempt at trying to rectify things. Humans can change, and at least a that point, gems couldn't (or at least that was the impression). Rose put her faith in the fact that Steven would be better than her. You can still say that's selfish, but I do think there's at least some shred of decency to that logic.

I feel like villain isn't the right word; More like a destructive force without any directed malice. She was self-centered and that led to the majority of the problems throughout the series, but villain is more someone who actively strives to destroy others for the advancement of their own goals. There was no active evil intent with her, she was just an inconsiderate and negligent person. She was awful and the characters have really started to grasp that and are working out those complex emotions.

Hey, I'm a surviver and I just wanted to say thank you for this video. Being abused does not justify hurting others. It never does. I could relate to Spinel so much and the show dealt with the whole abuse and genocide and redeeming so so badly, it was a terrible example. There are things that are not redeemable and there is a point where you can't make everything OK again. You can grow and change and do better but that does not make you entitled to anyone forgiving you or wanting you around.

I don't think redeeming the character is necessary. No one is all good or all bad. Just because you are showing us Pink's bad side does not mean she doesn't also have a good side. Like everyone on Earth, she's a mixture of good and bad. Accountability though is a different matter. If Pink could be held accountable she should be held accountable, not to redeem her but to make her repair the damage she caused.

bejjinks I feel the need to point out that the only really unambiguously selfless thing Pink is known to have done (having Steven included, mind you, which was more her taking her fascination with the human condition to self-destructive levels) is leading the Rebellion, and even that has a selfish motivator: The way the Authority worked, no one gem could go rogue, so in order for her to be absolutely liberated from oversight, so did every other gem on the planet. All the good things she does don't stop being good, but let's acknowledge that she only did the good things because they benefitted her personal goals.

Humanity is the same way. Our self is our motivator, experiencing things to our self makes us see things in a different light than usually seeing things done to others. The wording that Benjamin uses describing how "selfish," renegading from the Homeworld isn't conclusive as she didn't only renegade because of her abuse but because she wanted to save the lives of humanity, those she held fascination towards because of the Human Zoo Blue gave to her. She saw that the colony she was given was only meant to bring harm to the Earth, which she saw would affect their life as a whole, and end it. This is the difference of Rose and the Diamonds, she understands there's more meaning to humans than just lower-beings. This was the final straw on why which Pink/Rose declared war. What's the point of giving negatives when they've been already stated in the video? I can give you many, I can also give you many positives.

In my opinion pink diamond/rose is not bad or good. She made a lot of mistakes, but she learned from them in her own way. The show is showing her deeds backwards by showing her redemption first aka being with greg and learning to love him and wanting Steven, saving the humans, cherishing fusion etc. And as the show goes on, they show her bad mistakes. Yeah it sucks how she left everyone behind with her problems, but I think she just was a dreamer hoping for a better place. And by doing so only concentrating on herself, aka she was selfish. But as time went by and her finally starting to see things as they are and Greg telling her about what’s not right (he was the only person to teach her what she’s doing wrong) She learned what not to do. In my own experience I have made same kinds of mistakes like her. I left a person when I was younger because she was too clingy and wanted to hang out with me all the time. As i look back on it, I realize how horrible I was towards her. She loved to hang out with me and she did all these kind things to me, but I, being the selfish person I was and wanting to hang out with the cool people, left her behind. I also told her to act more like a grownup (even tho I was being more childish). I Ignored her calls and in the end, ended up breaking her heart. People always hurt the people who love them the most. But like Spinel, this girl that I hurt, changed because of me. She wanted to hang out with the cool people too. I already had changed my way of thinking and wanted to say sorry for the way I treated her, but it was already too late. She had changed completely, heavy makeup, clothes, how she talked and what music she listened to. All to satisfy some strangers needs. I ignored this and wanted still to return her into my life, but she didn’t accept me anymore. She wanted me to change too. She wanted me to put more makeup, slutty clothes, change the way I talk and all. It hurt me this time. After that I felt like shit for a long time. I almost started dressing that way too because I wanted to feel beautiful again.I guess karma is a bitch. Pink Diamond did not have anyone to learn from what is right and what is wrong before Greg. She had to learn things with experience. By doing horrible things she observed what happens after doing so and then maybe learned from that. Running away was one of her learnings.later she learned to fight. Home-world was advanced in Pink diamonds time only in technology, but emotions and understanding feelings was a very confusing subject for the gems. Abuse, slaves, hierarchy was a thing there. Yes, she could have said sorry for her things. But in her defense I have to say that she just didn’t know how. Greg even said that Rose felt like confessing about many things but it’s all in the past now. I think she didn’t go get Spinel because she viewed her mostly as a toy. She had so many things in her mind that she couldn’t satisfy everyone. Yes that’s horrible, I agree, but she loved the crystal gems, she loved the planet earth, she loved many things. No one is an angel nor a demon. @@sarafontanini7051 That's because we expected those actions from the diamonds but Rose Quartz/PD was treated as something like a saint for most of the series. Plus all the things she did she did it without thinking about the consequenzes and what it did to others. Pink faking her shattering is what drove the other diamonds over the edge, Rose disapearing to become steven left the Crystal gems into despair and without a leader not to mention all the enemys which she knew were after her, a being thousand of years old and trained fighter, are now after steven, a child. She did most of her decisions without thinking them through. The diamonds on the other hand had always problems and they're not completely forgiven for the things they did, and they never will be, nor are they're even closely done redeeming themselves. But, personaly, I like the other diamonds more because their motives were more relatable. They were placed on the top of an empire and had to be perfect, what steven told them was wrong, and after PD was gone, they all fell into despair. Blue fell into a deep depression, Yellow goes into rage and white completely lost it and went into denial about the loss of PD. Three of the stages of grief which some people can relate to who lost someone.

This show has really destroyed Pink/Rose as anyone that is remotely likable. However, when it came to her reasons why she chose to rebel against the Diamonds and incite a whole bloody war that killed thousands, the show did it piss poorly, but it still gave the indication that Pink/Rose didn't make the decision lightly. That she made this poor, not even thought out decision, because she did still mean well. With Spinel, you don't even have THAT. The story doesn't even TRY that this was a poorly thought out decision on Pink/Rose's part. It's not even explained WHY Pink/Rose did this, or WHY she couldn't bring Spinel with her and forced her to stay rooted in place for 6,000 years. (It was never said that the Diamonds refused to allow Pink to take Spinel with her, everything indicates that Pink just grew bored of her playmate and wanted to abandon her like a used, discarded toy.) And she never told a soul about Spinel. Even Pearl was not fully aware what Pink/Rose had done to her friend/playmate. Nor why Spinel understandably had her mind broken and damaged after being abandoned for 6,000 whole years. It's actually bewildering how much this show has utterly destroyed Pink/Rose as a character and that she is someone this contemptible and arguably is the true villain that helped start everything wrong in this series. A petty, superficial, shallow and self absorbed, petty brat who allowed people to literally die for her and because of her, almost had genocide committed on an entire planet-at least three times. And caused a good friend to go insane from being abandoned. Yeah, the entire thing with Spinel was ROSE'S fault. Entirely. When it never needed to happen. . .

The show starts with her after she was already dead and was remembered as a loving, selfless, if not a little impulsive friend/wife/mother. THEN we learn more about her past and how her impulsive decisions affected her loved ones (and thousands more) mostly negatively. AND THEN we got the full scope of her upbringing and how she acted before she met Greg and became more respectful to those she "loved." She was rash, impulsive, and immature, which I don't entirely blame her for. But what I DO blame her for was her inability to take responsibility for her actions and telling the truth to the people she (once again) "loved." The way I see Pink is that she did change for the better near the end of her life by being able to "love like you (Greg)" and have Steven. Although she left a lot of loose ends and left her family without the closure they so desperately needed. Also the whole cluster thing, also she never went back for the homie Bismuth, nor did she intend on going back for Spinel. Which were all pretty bad things to leave unfinished for your unsuspecting son and family to take care of after you died. So yeah, Pink kinda sucked. But she sucked less at the end of her life. Let's tackle one last thing that bothers me about the "Pink is shit" faction (just while I'm at it) and that's the 'Pink didn't have to shatter herself and fight Homeworld or her family' bit. Yes, she did. This is explicitly stated during the flashback on the moon. Blue Diamond: "You must understand. You are a diamond. Everyone on this planet is looking to you. You don't even have to do anything, just smile and wave.... As long as you are there to rule, this colony will be completed." Not only do we see Blue pulling a White (i.e. not letting Pink talk or defend her thoughts), but we see that it really doesn't matter what Pink does, as long as she exists. Earth will be destroyed as long as there is a Pink diamond to rule over it, whether she does it by her own hand, or if the other diamonds do it for her. Not only just in her own mind, but in reality - as long as she's there, everything she wants to protect will die. The only person who was able to come with her is her Pearl - the only gem she can trust not to tell anyone - because PD can order her to do that. The literal fate of the world and all the humans living on it is at stake. They don't get a second chance. Their only options to save Earth are through Rose, or to actually shatter PD. No one could know.

Yes, Spinel was holding her back, but guess what? Pink should have and could have said "I cant bring you along, you need to stay on Homeworld" And then explained the situation, but no Pink ABANDONED Spinel flat out and refused to do anything about it. Spinel devoted her LIFE to Pink and Pink didnt even devote a word to Spinel. The movie and SU: Future really opened my eyes to just how bad Pink Diamond was. rewatching the original series and seeing flashbacks and how the gems remembered her.. it was uncomfortable, seeing just how much she’s damaged others around her. Honestly, I loved how Rebecca Sugar made it somewhat subtle for some people. The movie was a giant bomb shell for some people, including myself.

Imagine if she was found in the gardens by one of the diamonds, she would annihilate the crystal gems. Steven only won because spinel realized what she was doing was wrong, she was blaming the wrong person. But she would go insane on rose, pearl, and garnet (And litterally every other crystal gem like bismuth). This is cause she doesnt know rose is pink, nd thus would want to destroy her no matter what the cost. Oh and nobody would be able to poof spinel with her own rejuvinator and not be able to be poofed by it like steven, as a matter of fact would she even have one, likely not.

Hear me out. Pink never cared about gems until Garnet and Pearl showed her something she hadn't seen before. Individuality. Raised as a Diamond 'lesser' gems were seen as tools not their own person. "Every gem has a purpose" and those who fall out of that role are "Off color". Non usable tools for gem kind. Spinel was made to be nothing more than a distraction presumably after Pink getting locked up by her sisters over and over again. The garden was a place to get Pink out of the way. Even though Spinel was made to be a 'friend' Pink began to realize (as per her slow reactions of sadness and discomfort in the garden) that the garden itself was another form of confinement. That the gem given to her was programmed as a tool to keep her happy. Her leaving Spinel behind was her leaving behind the fact that she was in an abusive relation ship with the other Diamonds. It would be like a child given a teddy bear or toy by an abuser to keep them quite and them leaving it behind when they finally escape that life. (I.E) Pink going to earth and leaving home world and her garden behind. Now when pearl started dreaming up things Pink diamond didn't ask of her (earlier annoying pink in the moon base that pearl was so subservient) and after seeing a fusion of two other gems that's main function were to be something else Pink as Rose "wanted to fight for her". Garnet. A gem that was no longer a tool in her eyes. Unfortunately in all of this Spinel was a living being. All gems from the show are living feeling beings. However, even at the end of the movie the other Diamonds call Spinel "One of Pinks lost treasures." So even they admit that she was a tool for use or a treasured item. Something rare to be used. Rose was horrible for not going back after the realization that gems could have individuality, but from her perspective as Pink its understandable. She was abused and left everything behind from those days.

What? The Garden wasn't just some place for pink to get dropped off when the other diamonds didn't want to deal with her! She went there to play with Spinel, it was a place for her to get away from her loneliness, granted Spinel WAS just a distraction, because Pink's ultimate desire was to have her own colony, maybe as a more permanent way to deal with her loneliness, but at that time, she was still of the mindset of a child, so it's natural for a child to just let go of something that doesn't interest them anymore. It's entirely possible that Pink understood and cared about Spinel, it's just that if Spinel followed Pink to Earth, she would only be an even bigger distraction than she already was, how could anything that transpired happen if Spinel is bouncing around, getting in the way and ultimately giving away that Rose Quartz was Pink Diamond all along, but even with that, Pink Diamond forced herself to grow up by accepting responsibility for a gem colony, that means Spinel has to stay behind, , it's something that most kids from back then forced themselves to do, put their toys away, get rid of their distractions so they can be something bigger. That isn't to say that it was a smart thing to do, considering the context of the movie, but it's something that has happened in the real world. Also the thing about the Diamonds is that they view things differently than other gems, even years after White Diamond was "defeated" and helped Steven and the other Diamonds save the corrupted gems, but I think that's just the part of them that get past themselves and the trauma of losing Pink Diamond, and besides...they're getting better at it, kind of.

Except she did the exact same thing to Bismuth AFTER realizing Gems had individuality. Bismuth got a little too gung-ho about their protection of Earth, and rather than being honest, PD/Rose bubbled Bismuth and hid her in an unreachable realm for all eternity. So this kind of proves your view wrong. Pink Diamond didn't genuinely care that Gems had individual personalities, she just found it interesting and amusing, and if it got too annoying to deal with, she got rid of them.

@@ladyaceina The very last thing we see of her in her timeline is the very first impression we get of her. Its really a question of whether you think she was being sincere in that videotape because it happened well after any of the flashbacks as evidenced by Greg's hair loss. Now you can say it wasn't enough, but to me the impression is she was trying to be better at that point. Meanwhile the other diamonds have been destroying worlds for millennia, shattered gems and then stuck their pieces together to make abominations. Its good that they're trying to do better now, but just like Pink that doesn't erase what they did. Hell if it were Blue instead of Pink she probably would have shattered Spinel once she no longer had a use for her. Pink hurt a lot of people and we got to see those hurt closely, but the others hurt even more people we didn't get to meet or even see mentioned. So yes the other diamonds at their worst were far worse than Pink who couldn't even complete one colony after seeing what it was doing.

Well.. This is just personal thought, Pink Diamond is like a little kid in a body of an adult. I mean, all she wanted was a planet of her own, to prove her worth and the bigger "adult" diamonds still treat her like a baby. So when she was given her own planet, she gave up her childish acts to take lead and eventually become Rose because again the adult diamonds were still reluctant with her.

Much as I agree that pink was a bad person, she also was a child raised in an exceptionally restrictive and abusive family that viewed everyone below them as disposable . I truly believe we saw glimpses of the kind person she was beneath that, but when she screwed up she screwed up beyond belief. I feel like she was only kinda just starting to come into more positive views of how to treat other people around the time she gave up her form, but she's the perfect hate sink character since she's dead.

No one is saying she's evil, she's immature and makes bad choices, and calling her out for her actions isn't ignoring everyone else. The difference between her and the diamonds is that the diamonds are actually dealing with the things they've done and trying to change. And before we get into that, "She saved the earth", thing, she didn't. She made the situation worse actually, so much worse that the diamonds created a geo weapon in the center of the earth. And before that, got thousands of gems corrupted because she faked her death. Are the other diamonds saints compared to her? Absolutely not, do I forgive them for killing gems and destroying planets? Absolutely not, but acknowledging the fact that they are ACTUALLY dealing with their problems is important. And Pink wasn't even starting to be a truly good person, she was just falling deeply in love with the earth because its the embodiment of everything she wants so be, free.
