*"The Return of the Son of Nothing"* Planets meeting face to face, Bound to the air of light, how sweet! If painlessly we might embrace, The perfect union deep in space. Ever might this once relent, And give us leave to shine as one, Our two lights here forever, one light blended. And in that longing to be one, The parting summers sound is gone, I see you've got to travel on, And on and on, around the sun. Strangers passing in the street, By chance two separate glances meet, And I am you and what I see is me. And do I take you by the hand, And lead you through the land, And help me understand the best I can. And no one calls us to move on, And no one forces down our eyes, And no one speaks and no one tries, No one flies around the sun. Cloudless everyday you fall, Upon my waking eyes, Inviting and inciting me to rise. And through the window in the wall, Come streaming in on sunlight wings, A million bright ambassadors of morning. And no one sings me lullabies, And no one makes me close my eye’s, And so I throw the windows wide, And call to you, across the sky.

inspired by.... *Two Planets* by Allama Sir Muhammad Iqbal Two planets meeting face to face, One to the other cried, ‘How sweet If endlessly we might embrace, And here for ever stay! how sweet If Heaven a little might relent, And leave our light in one light blent!’ But through that longing to dissolve In one, the parting summons sounded. This shows how collaborative they were. What other bands were more collaborative? Not the Beatles. Pink Floyd over and over would take new songs on the road months or even a year before they'd come out on record. Half of Dark Side was first played in January 1972. More than half of each Meddle, Dark Side, WYWH, and Animals all were played on the road well before being recorded.

Such an original 4-piece fantastic band. When it appeared to be a forgone conclusion they were done amid Barrett's ordeal Gilmour steps in and equals Waters as a vocalist, songwriter, and truly a virtuoso very underated when those are mentioned and ranked. Such melodic, beautiful, searing and moving solos throughout the entirety. Wright equally great musician and Waters too. I draw comparison, for fun, as Waters is the anti-establishment sneering angst of John Lennon-Gilmour is McCartney, Wright the soft spoken one like Harrison!

Crystal Palace Bowl has a lake in front of the stage. And the Floyd roadies were going mad trying to stop people getting into the water. We saw why later, at the climax of the Floyd set a big octopus that was hidden under the water was inflated and it rose up out of the lake. Funny what you remember after so many years.

@philiphadworth27968 жыл бұрын
The first verse is based on the poem "Two Planets" by Muhammed Iqbal (much as Roger had appropriated "Set The Controls" from a book of Tang dynasty poetry). Sadly that FAQ transcription is pretty poor. Reading the original poem and listening to multiple early live versions (especially from Berlin on 5 June 1971) will point one in the right direction of the correct lyrics.

... also 5:21 is the beginning of one of the best lead guitar chords all strung together E V E R!!!... agree!
From the song and the Iqbal poem illuminating us: Two planets meeting face to face, Bound to the air of light, how sweet! Endlessly we might embrace, A perfect union deep in space. Heaven might this once relent, And give us leave to shine as one, Our two lights here forever One light blended And in that longing to be one, The parting summons sound is drawn (?), I see you've got to travel on, And on and on, around the sun.

Utterly pathetic applause at the end. I'm surprised Roger didn't come to the mic and say "Well FxxK .You lot". :)
@wassupnomesayin3 жыл бұрын
You have to understand the context this performance. The applause comes out of audience respect for the band and their music. Roger, especially, didn't like screaming fans. He wanted the music to be heard and revered. Years later, his dissatisfaction with their ever - growing audiences reached a head in Montreal, July 1977 when he actually spit in a fan's face who was being unruly. This incident directly led to the writing of his classic " The Wall "

The audience were loud and intrusive bad recording but still significant
