Pink Floyd has a bunch of varying acoustic tunes, often they put you in yet another one of trances, different from their louder, more rocking stuff but Floyd is always an experience. It is amazing how cinematic their music is, this is not background or modern music that is heard today and gone tomorrow, this is the music to listen to all your life.They put me into my happy place. try Fat Old Sun for similar vibes, Floyd is endless musical exploration. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶

They paused the song right when the only hit on the drum happened, if so. Just at the moment when the guy on the left mentioned he's waiting for the drums to drop. The rest it's just the snare. This is one of the most beautiful songs in Pink Floyd's creations.

Guys, I hope you will consider listening to Piper At The Gates Of Dawn. It is marvelous and eccentric. Many do not like it, many swear by it which makes it a fantastic listen for reaction. (In my opinion.) Hear how it all started!
@CANDOKNOWHOW Жыл бұрын
It’s been one of my all time favorite Floyd Records since I first heard it, as well as “Relics”.. being they were from that same early Floyd era, they kinda fit hand in hand.
@rlwetz4317 Жыл бұрын
This and the next two tracks ("Fearless," "San Tropez") fit together so well (IMO) for the mellow after the peak (if you catch my drift) of "One Of These Days." Then whammo---Side 2 for a whole new trip! 😎 This is why I keep wondering if Piper era "Astronomy Domine" or solo Syd's "Terrapin" will ever make the reaction rounds as a relic to be dusted off. "Careful With That Axe, Eugene" too, because it was the bridge track and the concert centerpiece for a wild, young, struggling Pink Floyd.
@CANDOKNOWHOW Жыл бұрын
Totally agree with you, but unfortunately I doubt many reactions will ever be given to Piper or any solo Syd. It kinda bums me out, cause I love all that stuff so much, but over the years have found only certain people can get into it, and thereby grasp his greatness despite the sad aspect of his deteriorating condition.
@rlwetz4317 Жыл бұрын
@@CANDOKNOWHOW For me, "Dominoes" and "Terrapin" are absolutely necessary to complete the puzzle. Roger and Nick always copped to the architectural construction of their musical suites, and we hear so many built off of a single note or chord. But Syd? He heard melodies and wove lyrics around them like some wandering medieval troubadour. Could that be why Roger in particular chased that spark of Syd's, commemorating it so many times in his own songs? Do we not hear "Bike" in DSOTM? "Pow R Toc H" in Roger's Saucerful of Secrets screams and Dave's WYWH scats? "Astronomy Domine" and "Interstellar Overdrive" in Meddle? "Jugband Blues" and "Dark Globe" and "Vegetable Man" in The Wall? As vast as "Echoes" is, and as much of a fantasy submarine-slash-outerspace realm as it creates, IMHO Syd nails with the acoustic, undersea shimmery "Terrapin" as well.
@crazyfingers19 Жыл бұрын
I agree. If you are going to delve into a bands sound, then go back to the beginning. In this case Astronomy Domine. I think it’s one of the best career opening songs there ever was.

I've seen them live twice (73 and 75, both good shows) and listened to many of their records, many times at length (from Ummagumma to the Wall to be specific). Some of my buddies loved them. To be completely honest, they've just never captured me. They have a handful of songs I consider truly great, but I have just never been a huge fan of theirs. Don't know why. I won't deny or challenge Pink Floyd's greatness, but they remind me of a glass half-empty, whereas Yes reminds me of a glass half-full.
@johnbrowne3950 Жыл бұрын
Never heard Floyd described as "half empty." If anything they are full to overflowing.
@ron88303 Жыл бұрын
@@johnbrowne3950 I didn't mean it in terms of the quality of their music. Glass half-empty or half-full is a phrase typically used to describe one's attitude about things; half-empty means one tends toward a pessimistic view while half-full tends towards an optimistic view. Floyd, to me, is darker and more pessimistic than Yes.
@mikemicrael5749 Жыл бұрын
I wonder what the other half of the glasses would taste like to Ron. If Yes and Floyd leave him wanting, they aren't for him and he has a lot of choices. Many popular bands leave me wanting, but I would never suggest they are also great bands. Commercial success does not make an artist great - it is the catalog, and I would put the catalogs of Yes and Pink Floyd up against anyone's.
@johnbrowne3950 Жыл бұрын
@@mikemicrael5749 I disagree. For example, Careful With That Axe Eugene is a public service announcement.
@ron88303 Жыл бұрын
@@mikemicrael5749 You miss my point entirely. First, Yes is one of my favorite bands ever. To me they generate an optimistic vibe which appeals to me. Floyd is the converse; I recognize and appreciate their talent, but they generate more of a pessimistic vibe. I'm just making an observation of how I contrast the two; no diss of Floyd was ever intended.

Apparently this was common in the prog phase, one or two longer main tracks, the rest rather short songs by band members, where one likes the other less: Atom, Foxtrot, Fragile, Brain, Tarkus...
