This song is played with an open a tuning on the guitar with the particularity of the 6th string being tuned in D. Dave Gilmour is singing and the final chorus saying "you'll never walk alone is a Liverpool (soccer team) game and the crowd is singing that part. A great song from one of my favourite band ever

Nick mason in my opinion is one of the best drummers I’ve ever heard. He never misses a beat and can provide the beat and timing for any type of music, you’ve only gotta look at the varied styles that pink floyd compose and play and without mason I don’t think the songs would be as great as they are. He’s versatile for sure.

Don’t you think that this song could have been written about Hillsborough? Not just the tragedy itself but also the years of struggling for justice. Obviously I’m aware that the song was written years before it happened but it’s surreal to me how relevant it sounds.

this was the album before the dark side of the moon. the further back you go in their catalog the more you understand how everything after this album came into being. pink floyd were constantly experimenting in the studio much like the beatles after they stopped touring.

Pink Floyd is like Nikola Jokić. They force you into their pace and then dominate. There is something seemingly so simple about them that is impossible to understand, but impossible not to appreciate, if you are truly paying the attention they demand.

The focal and peripheral aspects of vision go to different parts of the brain before coming back together. I imagine that hearing divides the same way, via focus or concentration. We can focus on Dave Gilmour's guitar, thereby peripheralising the masterful exclamation points of Nick Mason's drumming to the phrasing of Roger Waters amazing poetics. Or we can follow or focus on the drumming or words. Different experiences! They l believe are masters of playing with this dichotomy that is fundamental to all experience. Being architect students probably helped: They studied the framing of spaces.

Obscured by Clouds is such a great album. You can hear veins of DSOTM come through. I love The Flaming Lips...In the Morning of the Magicians is my favorite song of theirs. It is very early Floyd-like...very ethereal.

@@brianblackwell7341 Yes! The Flaming Lips definitely trace their influences back to early Floyd. Then also Yoshimi fills the "concept album" prog requirement. 😉 If you're unfamiliar and don't mind the recommendation, check out "Chips From The Chocolate Fireball." In the late 1980s the band XTC, under the Sgt. Peppers inspired pseudonym The Dukes of Stratosphear, released their homage album to the psychedelic Sixties. It's brilliant. Besides nods to The Beatles there are definitely early PF bits and pieces.

Good going, guys. I'm glad you appreciate the song. It's one of my favorites. But Roger Waters is playing acoustic guitar here, along with Gilmour, and is the author of the famous riff. Roger is also playing the gorgeous bass lines, as Gilmour plays the electric. (Clearly there's some double-tracking in the recording.)

The thing I always go back to is when ppl say stay in your lane or shut up n dribble there’s a fine line between that and not standing up for something you believe in. Athletes aren’t just the best athletes they also stood up for what they believed in. Themselves. A great band like Pink Floyd also believed in themselves hence the soccer game at the end ig moral or the story believe in yourself and before you know it you’ll be doing so well nay sayers along the way will become nothing more than voices in the crowd
