Grantchester Meadows is a Roger Waters song, originally performed solo on the ‘Ummagumma’ album, that celebrates the English countryside, as in other compositions such as ‘Time’.
Pink Floyd’s ‘Animals 2018 Remix - Dolby Atmos’ on Blu-ray out now: PinkFloyd.lnk....
Collector’s Edition of The Dark Side Of The Moon on crystal clear vinyl out now: pinkfloyd.lnk....
This special group performance, taped for the BBC, with acoustic guitars and vocals from Roger Waters and David Gilmour, plus additional piano from Richard Wright and taped songbirds, successfully evokes a summer’s day in Grantchester, a small village close to Cambridge, England. Grantchester’s famous former residents include the Edwardian poet Rupert Brooke, who moved there and subsequently wrote a poem of homesickness entitled ‘The Old Vicarage, Grantchester’. Taken from ‘The Early Years 1965 - 1972’.

Roger got a big head so he quit the band in 1982. The band kept going and Roger sued them for using the Pink Floyd name brand, etc. Then they played 3 songs together as Pink Floyd live on MTV a while back for a benefit.

As usual there is a lot of malarky. Even David has said that the animosity was mostly in the publics mind. Its true Roger got dictatorial, its also true that after Dark Side of the Moon, the WHOLE band apart from Roger said they were ready to retire and grow vegetables. David said he'd 'likely get back to it as some point' but frankly without Roger there would be no Wall, Animals, or Wish you Were here, or the final cut (which I could have done without). ANyway, it was 'mostly business' when they called it quits. The fact is that all professional musicians eventually get to the point of producing their own stuff and there were just too many producers. Roger threatened to sue when he left, but he left when Pink Floyd as a business was pretty much bankrupt. Dave and Nick didn't like that, Nick admits that he really didn't do much work, but thanks to Bob Ezrin they made another album. Then another album in the nineties. David tried to mend bridges to get Roger to record The Division Bell, according to the song, he was told to f off. Live Eight came along and they did a benefit set of four songs.

I have been living in the Los Angeles area for many years, never decided to own a house, and all the places that I have lived in there was a nightingale singing for me at night, a strange feeling that it was the same one following me, but now at 64 years of age he has abandoned me, he was with me since I was 30, and he was crazy, always inventing new sounds, but I was laughing some times with his crazy singing, and in the morning he followed me until I got in my car to go to work, I'm really sad.

I first listened to this in a friends room in the late 70s but was recently in Granchester with my son walking along these every banks for the first time. To me this song is about gentle beauty wherever it may be and how it haunts our soul in the way that gives life meaning, but on a prosaic level I'm happy to relay that these meadows are still as beautiful as shown in this film and if you ever find yourself in Cambridge you can walk there as freely as you like.

This song is so beautiful, with the two of them singing and playing so sweetly together. I want to go down to a meadow and listen to the sound of the nature and the ripples of the water. Like I did in Scotland when I was a little girl. Now I live in Italy, on the island of Elba, there are no rivers, or King Fishers. So it is so lovely to listen to in this very troubled time.

I prefer the British English pronunciation as well. Yet one must consider, that the current american pronounciation is closer to the way Shakespeare spoke than modern BE. Colonial history apparently conserved it a bit. The "pot" sound [ɒ] for instance is of much more recent origin than you'd think. And whilst its grapheme-phoneme relationship is even more erratic, English spelling also makes more sense to me as opposed to American spelling. I cannot bring myself to write "colour" without the u.

Well done; and the writing of these lyrics is so important to this piece. the poetic alliteration and use of pacing. . . all very good. I love the line of "the dog-fox gone to ground." Meaning, that he has escaped his pursuers. Somehow, this is integral to the purpose of Grantchester Meadows.

There is a video of Kyle, me and my Dad on a boat floating through Okefenokee in Georgia back in 2004, watching alligators, nobody else around us, the sun is out, humidity everywhere, the water surface blended with the trees and the sky. When cutting the video my Dad used this song as background music. Who knew Grantchester Meadows is a perfect fit for Georgia swamps? That was a perfect day. Missing you Kyle, rest in peace.

pink floyd es mucho más que una banda de rock, es ardua magia con vehemente deseo de explorar la mente humana y tocar el alma. En ca melodía y cada canción puedes sentir algo tan especial y distinto al resto. no sé cómo describirlo. Es magia

Pink Floyd's musical compositions will always be greatly appreciated by those of us that love and live for music. Their genius wasn't just playing instruments but also experimenting with sound and manipulating it to induce emotional, mental and physical sensations like none that came before them. Many of their reel-to-reel cut and paste engineering techniques, for instance reverb and tape delay, were copied by many artists and engineers and became standard in the industry. Some news clips from their early days commenting on their quad-sound and multimedia breakthroughs: "1967: Pink Floyd performs the first-ever surround sound concert at “Games for May,” a lavish affair at London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall where the band debuts its custom-made quadraphonic speaker system. The technological breakthrough not only amazes and confuses the mass of stoned concert-goers, but it goes on to raise the standard of what audiences would come to expect from a live rock performance." "Pink Floyd had been assaulting their audiences with both sound and light, incorporating rudimentary light shows, complete with abstract films and bubbling, psychedelic oil slide projections, into their live sets ... they were the perfect band to break new ground by offering a true multimedia event." PF are true pioneers of music and their contributions will live on forever!

@andyindub I usually find myself wandering around my memory of a calm Lake Tahoe area meadow I recall from my 30s, when I dated a sweet Lisa from that area, 30yrs ago. As a hard working single mother with 2 children & living in a very dusty area, she got angry when I cleaned her house with the enthusiastic assistance of her children (one visit while she was at work) taking it as an accusation that she wasn't a clean person instead of the gift of easing her stress it was meant to be, and realizing she was a type to take things negatively personally instead of positively, I said my good-bye...
