Here’s the second full lesson in my new “Solo Studies” KZbin series, in which I transcribe and teach classic guitar solos.
Since I toured for many years with both Brit Floyd and The Australian Pink Floyd Show (TAPFS), I thought I would start with some classic David Gilmour and teach you how to play the solo from “Have A Cigar” from the “Wish You Were Here” album.
#PinkFloydGuitarLesson #HaveACigar #HaveAGigarGuitarLesson
Incidentally, I'm left handed, but I horizontally flip my tuition videos in order to make them easier for most "normal" people to follow.
The guitar and pickups were hand-built by Dave Walsh at Eternal Guitars & Hot Rod Pickups in Chichester, UK.
I am also using a Kemper Profiler, Elixir Strings and Hawk Picks.
I hope you enjoy this lesson. There's much more to come very soon, so hit subscribe for regular content, including twice weekly lessons from my "Lickorama" series.
Cheers,
Bobby

This is a fantastic tutorial. Im only half way through and it's so much fun. I like how quickly it moves at the drum roll after the first funky chord bit, into the classic Gilmour lick e minor 1 position. I struggled with the timing but when you get it, WOW what a thrill. Dont hesitate in you go! So funky!. Thanks Bobby, great teaching. I will check out the courses I think.

Lesson is : Phrasing, interesting how he finds a couple of notes and rides them, that's a great lesson on the pentatonic box and the Frying Pan when he extends it down and goes behind the 12 fret. I have tried to play along with this lead a few times for fun and it's seemed like he was in a lot more positions.

There’s plenty of online stuff but I would like to have you teach the mother solo. And especially the extended version which I can’t find anywhere -I saw a great KZbin video with David Gilmour and Roger and he did an extended version of the mother solo, which sounds really great. I wish it was played all the time. Are you familiar with the extended version of the mother solo? Anyway thank you again for all your awesome lessons.🙏🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️🎸🎸🎸👍👍

@@BobbyHarrisonGuitar I'd love to know your "rig rundown" for that show. I think musicman Strat and a Blackstar amp, but that's all I could see. Suppose it's trade secrets? Everyone wants that Gilmour lead tone, myself included. It's so elusive. I presume he achieved a lot with sheer volume.
@BobbyHarrisonGuitar
@BobbyHarrisonGuitar 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Matt. Do you mean the Red Rocks show? I was using a Suhr Custom S-type into a Cornford MK50 mkII head with a TC Electronic G System handling all of the delays, reverbs and modulation. I think I had a few pedals too. Definitely a Suhr Riot and a Shiba Drive and maybe a Keeley Compressor, but it's a long time since I've used that setup. I don't even own a G System anymore. I later moved onto a Fractal rig, but now I tour with a Kemper Profiler because it sounds amazing and is so easy to tour with. I've never subscribed to this purist ideal that in order to play Pink Floyd music, you need to duplicate Gilmour's rig. Few who feel that way have never tried to lug something of that scale and size around the world and those that have, usually have a tech to do it for them and a backup for everything. In my experience, achieving the desired sound is infinitely more about the player than the gear. The more moving parts you add, the higher the chances of something breaking. Also, I've seen people with all the gear who sound nothing like the man himself. A lot can be achieved with a good basic tone (be it valve or digital), the required effects and good ears and fingers.

Why not say the notes and their functions ? Numbers are worthless
@BobbyHarrisonGuitar
@BobbyHarrisonGuitar 4 ай бұрын
I do think in terms of intervals, not fret numbers. Unfortunately, the tab generation largely depends on 'painting by numbers' without any real context. It’s impossible to cater to everyone. If I explained the intervallic function of each note, the video would be 10 hours long and people would probably complain about the length.
