Ok guys, been playing guitar for years now and listening to some of the greatest rock guitarists of all time, and in my humble opinion this solo, both technically and emotionally can only be equalled by some of the greatest, like Jimmy Page or David Gilmour. This isn't about some basic scales and patterns you use when playing in cover bands, this is genuinely brilliant, very mature piece of art, a solo that could easily find it's place among the most iconic albums of all time. Are you with me on that one?

Yes and no. I agree this dude (Max I believe) has got ridiculous chops. While Gilmour is my favorite guitarist ever, like obsession level favorite - I built a Gilmour black strat, I've got the X X X X leather strap, own all of his music, and can play almost every one of his solos, Gilmour couldn't play this. He simply never learned to play like this and this isn't in any way even remotely something David would even dream of creating. He's the greatest phrasing guitarist to ever live. He's not fast, at all, and never aspired to be. But, he can do more with one note than this dude can do with 20...
@Widmowiec
@Widmowiec 3 жыл бұрын
@@NJFPV I'm not comparing the guy here to Gilmour, what I'm saying is he's got style and class of his own and could very well fit among the classics of rock guitar without people noticing that he actually belongs to a younger generation. To put it simpler: had that solo been recorded in seventies it would be an absolute classic by now.
@NJFPV

@@Widmowiec I agree. I knew what you meant. Was just pointing out that it was far from anything Gilmour would or could play, but that it doesn't matter. I agree - this is legend level playing. I listen to this multiple times a day. It's just as good the 6th time in a row as it was the first.

@@NJFPV yes and no......agree++ with Gilmour being the greatest phrasing guitarist ever, and aptly put btw. also agree DG can wring more from a note than anyone, even clapton. @@learnerit3164 Max is definitely a fan of the guitar greats of the past ~50 years, especially Jimmy Page. The love for Zeppelin shines through beautifully, but mixes with the designs of Floyd and The Main Squeeze's own creativity to form a unique sound that I believe transcends the original. Few songs have done this over time, but the most iconic is Jimi Hendrix's All Along The Watchtower, which Bob Dylan even regarded as a superior rendition and ended up modifying his own performance of for his shows! Genius, indeed.

There's just something special when a band makes a cover their own and it actually works. This is is so close the source material, and yet there's something to the "soul" of the thing that differentiates it. I really love it. Of course, it doesn't hurt that the guitarist is just fantastic -- I love his feels very, very much.

this solo is an example of one of those magic moments you just sometimes have as a guitarist. somehow it's the right day and everything falls into place. you pick up the guitar like always but something feels different. as you start to play your mind starts wandering off and you feel all of your problems and thoughts melt right into your playing and your hands just do their thing. there's no world outside of you and your guitar, you have completely surrendered to the flow and let everything out without filter. i have listened to this solo so many times and i still get goosebumps everytime at 5:30. the way he gets up. the look the drummer gives him. everything in this video makes me feel good.
