@@emdiar6588 I don't know that I'd include the movie "The Wall"... That wasn't just the band doing the music. I'm thinking just albums that they put out. They had three really great singers, so there wasn't much need to go outside. Man they put out some epic music...

Great album. I still can’t believe that it’s not Roger Waters on lead vocals. Too weird. Why?! Roger could’ve done this easily. WTF
@ffjsb
@ffjsb 5 жыл бұрын
@@natewilliams1062 The story I read was that they just couldn't make the vocals work for some reason, and someone from the band got the singer to come in from another part of the studio when Rogers was taking a break. Evidently it worked. It kind of works on another level too, because the lyrics are from the point of view of someone outside of the band anyway.

you could mean it all the way you want, he's one of my favorite also and the band a personnal musical inspiration for my music. But within the years i've learned something about musicianship, and it's the idea that there are 2 type of musician. One with soul, feeling and grooving within the forests of soundscape, or the other who's theoritical and highly critical. A true musician is one who puts life into a dead medium. Gilmour is one within the great circle of art, yet he can't be the best, because the essence of art is to learn and give so someone else learns and gives back.

Not to be manipulated by someone, like the lyric " Oh by the way which ones Pink? Oh the name of the game is riding the gravy train" they recognized they were attempting to use them. The story behind how Roy Harper ended up on this track goes like this. The band was in the middle of recording Wish you were here and when it came around time to track this song Roger wanted to do the vocals, they even recorded with him singing but David wanted sing on it and didn't think it worked with Roger singing. Roy Harper happened to be in the same studio recording his own music and David asked him if he wouldn't mind giving it a try since both Roger and David couldn't agree on who should sing. They recorded it and the band with the exception of Roger thought it worked better.

This one should really be listened to after listening to, 'Welcome to the Machine'. They cover similar topics. Have a Cigar is much more specific though. Welcome to the Machine is a fantastic song in it's own right. Even better than Have a Cigar imho. Mind you, it shows how exceptional Floyd are, that these 2 songs are the candidates for worst track on the album. Of course to call either track the 'worst' would be ridiculous. All tracks on Wish You Were here are stellar. Ditto the tracks on Dark Side of the Moon. In fact, with most Floyd albums it's nigh on impossible to find a bad track. They're just too damn good! :)

A lot of their songs end with some sort of unique transition leading right into the next song. When people just listen to the songs individually.....they miss out on those. 'The Wall' is full of those magical transitions. That's one long continuous operatic masterpiece, and if possible.....is best listened to in order. I've seen it done broken up into 2 or 3 separate videos. Gotta' include all of those transitions though, to get the full effect.

yep not the standard solo at the end, there is a piece in it that shouldn`t be there? i`ve heard this a lot lately,(missing an edit, sounds unnatural) maybe it`s from the imerson box set? the song is supposed to end there as it fades into wish you were here on the album..

It's from the Japanese release. As A kid I had a Japanese vinyl of the same version. The edit is what we're used to hearing. It is also mixed differently. The guitars are not as loud in the Japanese release.

I got to see them Echoes live the 1st time I saw them. They played JFK Stadium (where Live Aid was held) and the first song to kick off the concert was Echoes. What a night to be 17 in 1987! We were lucky in Philadelphia and a few other cities as well because it was played a handful of times. Apparently they got upset at the reactions of the crowd. Or so I read...

After you do all your reactions (and thank you for them!) listen to the whole thing non-stop, one piece just flows into another so smoothly. And you were right when you listened to the "Diamond" - just the sound alone makes you feel like you are watching a movie. Same with all their albums, they like operas. Check out Animals. Please.

Pink Floyd is one of the quad-legends. Pink Floyd, Rush, Led Zeppelin, and Metallica. You need to dig into all of these. All are sooooooo talented. Transitions, original sounds, and pure artistry. If you come from hip hop, hard core rap, it'll take some digging to get to the rabbit hole in the context of Metallica, but you'll find it, and you'll be rewarded.

Did you not do Pink Floyd Welcome To The Machine? This song sort of cuts off...it drops in volume, and then goes into Welcome To The Machine. These are off of the album Wish You Were Here and all of the songs flow into the next.

Not true Welcome to the machine comes before it. Wish you were here comes after have a cigar. In the end of have a cigar it goes into a tv sound (if I'm not mistaken it's a scene from the movie rear window from Hitchcock, and the male main character is talking to his girlfriend) then the movie sound of the TV fades away into wish you were here. How many seconds of pinks Floyd albums do you know Pedro? Pedro: yes

The song is cut off there because it goes right into the next song "Wish You Were Here." Back when this was released in 1975, albums were meant to be played in their entirety. Prog rock, if which Pink Floyd is a member of, is not a genre of singles. There were music radio stations whose programming format was AOR (Album Orientated Rock). The "Wish You Were Here" album is a concept album meant to be played and listened to from start to finish. If you listen to it like that, you will truly appreciate the artistry and vision of Pink Floyd. This is true for their mid to late 70s albums, Dark Side of the Moon (1973), Wish You Were Here (1975), Animals (1977), and their magnum opus, The Wall (1979). Yes, I'm a prog rock, hippie chick from the 70s!! 💜💜💜
