Just an isolated recording of the phone call heard as a transition between Young Lust and One of My Turns.

I was an operator at one of the international exchanges in London when The Wall came out. This call is burned into my consciousness too. I don't remember the exact phrase we used for collect calls, but it would have been something like: This is the United Kingdom (I know, all of it!). Mr Floyd is calling Mrs Floyd. Will you accept the charges? Understandably people were sometimes reluctant to pay and would hang up immediately. On those occasions I really wanted to say: "He hung up. Is it your residence, sir? Well I wonder why he hung up. Is there supposed to be someone else there besides your wife, sir, to answer?"

@@alex5824 I think the producer made the call to one of his friends and recorded it.

A little bit of techno geek stuff about this call... This is a good example of what a long distance call sounded like back 70s. In the 1970s, long distance calls used in-band signaling to send the dialed numbers over the line. The tones you hear is the operator sending the phone number the equipment on the UK end of the call. The beeps you hear are called supervision tones that told the equipment that one of the parties had hung up and the long distance truck was available for more calls. You can also hear a lot of background noise because the connection was all analog. You don't hear any that stuff anymore because everything is digital.

Has the operator ever been identified? I wonder if she realized she was on an iconic rock album.

in the second 11 i hear an additional voice in minor volume

I listened to it loud with headphones on. It sounds to me like a T.V. program in the background. You can hear it cuts into the voice mid sentence when the guy picks up the phone.
